Nothing is working anymore: On their way to the coronation of Charles X of France, a group of aristocratic travelers from all over Europe find themselves stranded at a luxury hotel near Reims – chaos is inevitable. And so, love affairs, intrigues, jealousy, and the like soon erupt between all parties.

Pettersson and Findus, the quirky protagonists of the famous Swedish children's book series, are inseparable and lead a peaceful life on their farm. That is, until Caruso, the vain rooster from the neighboring farm, disturbs their blissful solitude while fleeing the soup pot. Caruso crows incessantly, playing tunes and shamelessly turning the heads of the farm's hens. Everyone loves Caruso. Everyone except Findus. The tame cat's spirit is shaken. Findus fears for his position as Pettersson's favorite, and when he's had enough, he hatches a cunning plan.

Prince Tamino no longer wants to be a prince. However, when he falls in love with the portrait of Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, he is ready for any heroic deed. First, he is to free Pamina from Sarastro's clutches for the Queen, and then, once in Sarastro's realm, he must face life-threatening trials for him. At his side are the free-spirited Papageno and a magic flute. In the end, Tamino and Pamina are reunited, and Papageno is no longer alone – a happy ending? "The Magic Flute" is a beautiful parable about growing up, told in dreamlike images by director Dirk Schmeding for young and old alike.
