Concierto en Tango

Orpheum Theater

Britten’s mysterious and moving Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes powerfully interpret an outcast fisherman’s tragic end amid turbulent seas. Buffalo-born Robert Paterson’s colorful Triple Concerto compellingly examines Earth’s fragility, while Beethoven’s gentle Sixth Symphony portrays a charming countryside turn, evoking deep relaxation and contemtment.

Beethoven’s Pastoral

Kleinhans Music Hall

A weekend of fanciful dreams and fantastical escapades awaits when the musical narration of Richard Strauss’ Don Quixote takes the stage with BPO principal Roman Mekinulov portraying the role of the knight errant. The intoxicating romance of Spain continues with Ravel’s lush Rapsodie espagnole.

Don Quixote

End the journey with music that feels like pure momentum. Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony is rhythm driven, joyful, and famously unshakeable once it takes off. Before it, Beethoven’s Triple Concerto brings three soloists into the spotlight, violinist Nikki Chooi, cellist Roman Mekinulov, and pianist Michael Davidman, creating a vibrant conversation between soloists and orchestra. The pairing makes an ideal finale, collaborative and uplifting, then propelled into the symphonic surge of the Seventh. This concert sends you out with energy and a sense of shared release.
