Whether it be Beethoven’s homage to Mozart, Ginastera’s visceral exploration of the Argentine landscapes, or Brahms’s reverence for Bach, I hope to give you a glimpse into what moved these great composers to write their remarkable and captivating music.”

The concert will conclude with Alberto Ginastera's Variaciones Concertantes, showcasing the virtuosity of the entire orchestra through a series of variations that highlight different musicians or sections.

Gustavo Dudamel conducts the National Children’s Symphony of Venezuela during Carnegie Hall’s World Orchestra Week (WOW!), which celebrates extraordinary youth ensembles from around the globe. In the first half of the program, the gifted young musicians perform John Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Estévez’s symphonic poem Mediodía en el llano, and Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia, which the orchestra also performed in its unforgettable international debut at the Salzburg Festival. WMP’s electrifying season finale ‘Music of the Americas’ features a splendid array of music from North, Central and South America. Puerto Rican composer Angélica Negrón’s (currently based in Brooklyn, New York) work has been described as “wistfully idiosyncratic and contemplative". Her piece Tornasol (Spanish for sunflower) is a work that focuses on the vibrancy of color and how it changes through scientific experimentation, all portrayed in various sections of the orchestra. In contrast, guest artist Colin Davin will perform Concierto del Sur, a masterpiece for guitar and orchestra by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce. The second half of the program includes music that is lively, rhythmic, and exciting. El Salón México by Aaron Copland depicts scenes and imagery from his experience at a popular dance hall in Mexico City. Four Dance Episodes from Alberto Ginastera’s ballet La Estancia incorporates Argentinian folk music that represent dance, character, and settings of life on the ranch. We conclude the program with Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez – a seductive, yet melancholy and irresistible ballroom dance inspired by the Cuban Habanera performed by full orchestra.

Venezuelan musician Gabriela Montero is a piano superstar. She improvises, composes and succeeds in charming her way into the hearts of audiences around the world with her unrivalled flair. Together with the Antwerp Symphony and Elim Chan, Montero will perform her lively Piano Concerto, in which she blends the rich rhythms of Latin America with European music, to create “a dance of joy and darkness”. Lena Frank’s heart also beats to the tune of these two cultural identities. In her Three Latin American Dances, she references the work of such composers as Ginastera and Bernstein. The latter’s West Side Story would go on to cause a revolution in music and theatre genres. Enjoy a concert programme with lots of symphonic dance music and some vibrant Latin energy!

Cellist Devin LaMarr is currently located in Pittsburgh as a Master of Music in Cello Performance at Carnegie Mellon University. She is currently receiving a full scholarship to study in the studio of Anne Martindale-Williams. Devin received her bachelor’s degree in cello performance from Lynn University, where she received a full scholarship to study in the studio of David Cole. Other important teacher’s in Devin’s life have been Jonah Kim and Walter Gray. Devin is also a dedicated chamber musician, having debuted with her quartet, the Kourdisma Quartet, at the Lyric Chamber Music Society in New York, in May, 2022 after winning first prize in Lynn University’s chamber music competition. Other competitions Devin has won include the Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Auditions in 2023, and the Navaroli Young Musicians competition, where she performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the South Valley Symphony in her native California. She was also a finalist in the the Big Arts Classical Music Scholarship competition in Sanibel, Florida.

Join Camerata Pacifica in Santa Barbara for an unforgettable evening of classical and contemporary classical music on November of 2023. The renowned chamber ensemble will be performing an exquisite program featuring the works of three brilliant composers.

First on the program is the Clarinet Trio composed by the legendary Johannes Brahms. This piece showcases the perfect blend of the clarinet, cello, and piano, creating a harmony that will transport you to another world.

Next, the talented cellist Ani Aznavoorian will take the stage to perform Alberto Ginastera's Cello Sonata. Her mastery of the cello and emotional depth will bring this powerful work to life.

The performance will then continue with a Suite for Clarinet and Cello by contemporary composer Paul Dean. This innovative piece will stretch the boundaries of traditional chamber music, leaving the audience in awe.

To complete this unforgettable musical experience, the audience will be treated to the virtuosic talents of pianist Irina Zahharenkova and clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester. This dynamic duo will captivate the audience with their impeccable technique and passion for music.

“A masterful player with a commanding presence” (Seen and Heard International), American pianist Michelle Cann has made a name for herself by excavating, championing, and performing under-recognized works by the great composer Florence Price. Last year, Cann became the first African American appointed to the piano faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music, as well as the recipient of the illustrious Sphinx Medal of Excellence. She has earned praise for her fascinating programs connecting the music of Black women pianist-composers Price, Hazel Scott, and Margaret Bonds, and here performs her Cal Performances debut recital featuring Price’s formally inventive Piano Sonata in E minor, alongside a haunting 2020 work by Joel Thompson inspired by a James Baldwin essay, plus works by Liszt, Ginastera, and Ravel.

Program One opens with Ashton’s whimsical Varii Capricci, revived from the brink of loss by The Sarasota Ballet in 2019 and described by esteemed dance critic and writer Anna Kisselgoff as “that rare ballet bird – a self-parody and an honorable parody of The Royal Ballet’s own traditions.”  Continuing the program is Panoramic Score (World Premiere) by Gemma Bond, who enthralled Sarasota audiences last Season with her world premiere of Excursions. Dance critic, Marina Harss, has described Bond’s choreography as “expansive, lyrical, handsomely coordinated, with a focus on the beauty of the line of the body.”  Kobborg’s Salute then tells a loose story of soldiers going off to war and the girls they leave behind. About The Sarasota Ballet’s 2011 performance of Salute, dance critic Carrie Seidman wrote that the work was “fresh, funny, and styled after his Bournonville roots without being dated or derivative.”

I am so excited to bring my childhood experience of listening to the music of my Cuban heritage while growing up in Miami to my home in Madison. This program will demonstrate the tremendous versatility of our Overture Concert Organ in a way that you all have not heard before. I contacted my childhood guitar teacher, Alvaro Bermudez, to help put together a band of some of the best classical and jazz musicians in Miami. Magela Herrera, flute, Alvaro Bermudez, guitar, Yarelis Gandul, percussion, and Alex Hernandez, bass, will join forces with me and our Mighty Klais to present a bilingual program of both classical and popular Latin-American music.

Ryan Bancroft conducts a wide range of American music by Alberto Ginastera, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, and John Adams. American Randall Goosby is the soloist in Korngold's Violin Concerto, which builds on film music from the golden age of Hollywood.

Jackson Hole Chamber Music brings world-class musicians from around the country to Jackson each year to perform riveting concerts throughout the region.  This year at Center for the Arts, musicians perform a concert "in the round" on the main stage, with works ranging from Albert Roussell's Trio for Flute, Viola, and Cello, to Paul Schoenfield's Cafe Music which combines American, Viennese, light classical, and Broadway styles all in one piece.

For our annual free concert, guitarist Roberto Capocchi gives a solo recital featuring spirited works by four leading 20th-century composers, including the Homenaje a Tárrega by Joaquín Turina, which honors the iconic, late-Romantic Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega, and the only original work for solo guitar by the legendary Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera: the Sonata, Op. 47.
