The Waco Symphony welcomes Emily Levin, the principal harp of the Dallas Symphony in Ginastera’s colorful Harp Concerto. Maestro Loh is a champion of the music of Polina Nazaykinskaya and will open the second half with her brand new work, Elegy XXII, a work that yearns for peace amongst conflict, loss and despair. This concert truly showcases the power of music.

Young artists from Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars mentoring program perform in a pair of afternoon concerts for which the program’s Artistic Director, cellist Marcy Rosen, is joined by distinguished artists Ani Kavafian, violin, and Becca Albers, viola. These concerts are the capstone of a weeklong residency at Caramoor in which these young musicians participate in workshops, reading sessions, and ensemble rehearsals, culminating in live performances with their mentors. Since 1992, this program has identified some of the finest musicians of the next generation and helped them cross the threshold from their student years into the early stages of a professional career.

The Miró String Quartet, a powerhouse ensemble well known to CMS audiences, returns to the Alice Tully Hall stage in its 30th-anniversary year with a program showcasing the quartet’s technical and stylistic prowess. From a mature masterpiece by Joseph Haydn to a ground-breaking classic by Argentine master Alberto Ginastera, the program touches all the bases in the quartet literature, including a nod to the French tradition with the immortal quartet by Debussy and a sampling of the quartet thought to have inspired it, by César Franck.

Opening night belongs to the renowned Sphinx Virtuosi, which returns to PCMS for a fifth consecutive season, this time with the gifted young cellist Sterling Elliott as the featured soloist. Comprising 18 of the nation’s top Black and Latinx classical soloists, the “vibrant” and “rhapsodic” Virtuosi (New York Times) bring to PCMS a program titled Visions of Peace which offers a unique convergence of musical voices that usher us into a realm where music becomes an emissary of peace and unity. Sphinx writes: “We hope to lift every voice and remember our complex history while looking toward our shared journey as we face a brighter tomorrow. We explore peace while remembering the conflict of past and present and recognizing the repeated history and the resilience of the human spirit.”

Join the Fresno Philharmonic for a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, featuring a deeply personal new piece by composer Juan Pablo Contreras. Alma Monarca invites audiences into Contreras’s childhood memories of Día de los Muertos and the awe-inspiring Monarch butterfly migration to the Mexican state of Michoacán. Framing this moving work are the lilting and spirited Estancia: Four Dances by Ginastera and Brahms’s titanic Piano Concerto No. 1, performed with passion by acclaimed Mexican pianist Jorge Federico Osorio.

It's pure "soul food," says Stewart Goodyear of his suite for piano and orchestra entitled "Callaloo." He wanted to create a musical tribute to his Caribbean roots. With a blend of jazz, African, and French influences, which for him are the musical heart of Trinidad, the Havana Lyceum Orchestra imports Caribbean sound to Wiesbaden in this unique concert project. The orchestra's specialty: transforming a classical concert hall into a truly exuberant atmosphere. There's no question that this year's guest performance will also feature plenty of rhythm and son, plenty of Cuba, and even more enthusiasm.

Darius Milhaud galt in den 1920ern als enfant terrible der Pariser Musikszene; als Attaché des französischen Botschafters in Rio de Janeiro schnappte er lokale Sounds auf und integrierte sie in seine Werke. Mit der Saxofon-Virtuosin Asya Fateyeva ist eine dynamische Solistin mit von der Partie, die ebenfalls locker zwischen Klassik und anderen Musikstilen wandelt.

This spirited programme is a celebration of the piano through dance, from the sweeping elegance of Chopin’s waltzes and polonaises to the sultry rhythms of Granados’ Danzas española and the fiery energy of Ginastera’s Suite de danzas criollas. Expect the whirling romance of Ravel’s and Respighi’s waltzes, the swagger of Prokofiev’s Mercutio, and the heady swirl of Brahms’ Hungarian Dances.

Many people - or should we say millions of people - know Hayato Sumino as Cateen, because under this artist or influencer name the pianist inspires a constantly growing online fan base for his art: people who otherwise don't have much to do with classical music. The young Japanese has been proving for years that he is also up to the demands of a "normal" concert career, for example with his victory at the PTNA piano competition in his home country in 2018 or his participation in the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2021, which was closely followed by the media. As if these talents alone were not enough, Hayato Sumino also has a degree in engineering and is himself active as a composer and arranger. How does Mozart's "Turkish March", the third movement from the wonderful A major Sonata KV 331, sound when you chase it through all major and minor keys? In his 24 variations on this theme, Sumino provides the answer – and contrasts it with the lively arrangement of a Gershwin classic: “An American in Paris”, which also stops by Bochum for a quick visit.

We are very excited to be ending our season with the first ever visit to the UK of the internationally famous Buenos Aires Symphony Orchestra of Colón Opera.  This concert is of particular significance as we celebrate Bradford’s year as the UK’s City of Culture, with a performance of our own city’s great composer Frederik Delius’s piano concerto, performed by the distinguished British pianist Mark Bebbington.  Prior to the tour, this great Delius work will receive its Argentinian premiere, a concert that has been inspired by our position as the UK’s City of Culture.  The programme will open with Wagner’s romantic Prelude & Liebestod from Tristan & Isolde and in the second half there will be music from Bizet’s much-loved Carmen Suite, Tchaikovsky’s lyrical Swan Lake suite and the programme will end with two dazzling, scintillating show stoppers from two of Argentina’s greatest composers - Alberto Ginastera and Astor Piazzolla.

The Night of the Maya pulsates with a huge percussion section, traditional instruments and a full orchestra. Originally composing for a 1939 film score, Revueltas created an orchestral suite to give this music a life in the concert hall. Malambo illustrates the infectious rhythms of Argentinian gaucho dance traditions. And beloved collaborator Augustin Hadelich brings Prokofiev at his most wickedly daring with the First Violin Concerto — a concert that could very well raise the roof of Benaroya Hall.

In 1800, Beethoven was 29 years old and facing a major commission to write his first work for the stage, a ballet based on the myth of Prometheus. The Italian composer and dancer Salvatore Viganò was originally tasked with presenting the work to the Viennese Archduchess Maria Theresa. While Viganò usually composed his own music for his performances, he felt this performance was far too important and asked Beethoven to compose instead. The complete music for the ballet consisted of an overture, introduction, and sixteen numbers, but, since the overture was the only one Beethoven had written at that time, he often performed it separately to open concerts of his music.

Maurice Ravel's imaginative and even humorous La valse is a tribute to the waltz and Johann Strauss II. Originally, the working title for this music was "Vienne", then he changed it from the French spelling to German, "Wien", before finally deciding that the fitting title would be La valse. Ravel and Argentine Alberto Ginastera frame the program, the latter with fiery dance in the form of Malambo.

The night begins under the baton of guest conductor Maximiano Valdes, who will lead the orchestra through Alberto Ginastera’s hypnotic Pampeana No. 3, a vibrant montage of dazzling Argentinian folk rhythms. Don't be happy too late is the inversion of the well-known motto. Or as a classic: "Always look on the bright side of life". The motto comes from the comedy troupe Monty Python and is still apt. Children and fools are in a good mood and they tell the truth. They dare to do things that are not otherwise appropriate: to be blunt and direct, to hold up a mirror to others, to look at themselves in it, not to take themselves too seriously and to infect others with their anarchic cheerfulness. Sometimes fools also fib. Never mind. When you laugh, you recognize a truth that you would otherwise only suspect through deep thought. A New Year's concert about fools and comedians in music.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical music with the Omaha Symphony's presentation of "Sound and Fury." This captivating concert is set to take place at the prestigious Joslyn Art Museum on Sunday, November 17th, at 2:00 PM. Under the baton of conductor Nick Hersh, with the notable participation of Principal Trombone Patrick Pfister, the event promises an afternoon filled with musical brilliance.

The program is a rich tapestry of compositions spanning several centuries, headlined by Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 60, Il Distratto, a piece known for its warmth, humor, and the delightful comedy of errors inspired by the play "The Absent-Minded Gentleman." This work sets the stage for a journey through the soundscapes of Jan Sandström's Wahlberg Variations and Anna Clyne's Sound and Fury, the latter drawing inspiration from both Haydn's symphony and the dramatic depths of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The concert will conclude with Alberto Ginastera's Variaciones Concertantes, showcasing the virtuosity of the entire orchestra through a series of variations that highlight different musicians or sections.

This event is not just a concert but an exploration of the velvet sound world of low brass, with Patrick Pfister's performance of the Wahlberg Variations at its center. Each piece in the program has been carefully selected to feature the best of music from multiple centuries, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

Dance across America, Argentina, and the Alps with thundering drums, rising strings, and lyrical winds. The Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra opens their 2024-2025 season with von Suppe’s waltz-like Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture. Ira Hearshen’s reimagining of American band composer John Philip Sousa’s march “The Thunderer'' builds anxiety before a triumphant resolution. Enjoy the patriotic folk dances of Argentina in the four movements of Alberto Ginastera's Estancia. Close the evening with Brahm’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor. Nearly 20 years in the making, it’s said the finale speaks of “deliverance and peace” unfolding to “unrestrained triumph.”

Vibrant musical colors twist and dance in this varied program. Alberto Ginastera’s Variaciones concertantes and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Concertino Cusqueño explore the sights and sounds of South America, while showcasing the virtuosity of the SLSO musicians. Conductor Cristian Măcelaru illuminates the soul of Antonín Dvořák’s music, from the fireworks of Carnival Overture to the exuberant Sixth Symphony. “The only way we can eradicate darkness is by bringing light,” Măcelaru says.

Kicking off the 2024/25 season with the LA Phil’s annual gala concert, Gustavo Dudamel joins forces with legendary pianist Lang Lang for a glittering evening featuring Rachmaninoff’s dramatic and lush Piano Concerto No. 2 as well as Alberto Ginastera’s Estancia, which Dudamel and baritone Gustavo Castillo recorded with the LA Phil in a recent Grammy-nominated album.
