The Only King is acclaimed as the first original Cantonese biblical musical to present the story of the Book of 1 Samuel in its entirety. The production follows the life of King Saul, from his anointing and rise to the throne to his gradual downfall through pride and disobedience. Through the contrasting journeys of Saul and David, the musical explores themes of obedience, faith, repentance, and God’s grace, offering meaningful reflections for contemporary audiences.

A Choreographic Award to promote and encourage young choreographers to create a Group presentation in any Dance genre: £1,000 Prize to Winner, £300 to Runner Up, and £200 to Third place. There’s an additional award for an Entertaining number: £500 to Winner.

Featuring violin, viola, and electronics, this programme is an eclectic journey through ethereal and folk soundscapes all the way to the world of groove. You can expect loop pedals, live electronics, and even yodelling.

Spotlight: Talking in Circles

RNCM (Royal Northern College of Music)

RNCM conducting fellow, Jacobus de Jager, leads Manchester Camerata in a performance that travels from the Classical period to the present day, with orchestral works from Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, and featuring a UK premiere by Arthur Feder.

Tchaikovsky, though composing in the late 19th century, admired the elegance and clarity of the Classical style, particularly drawing inspiration from Mozart, whom he described as ‘a sunny genius’. During a period of personal turmoil, he turned to the serenity of 18th century music for emotional refuge. His Variations on a Rococo Theme exemplify this influence, showcasing an ornate yet refined style that reflects the Rococo aesthetic. RNCM musician Chloe Chen joins the orchestra as cello soloist.

Manchester Camerata x RNCM: Beethoven’s Eroica

RNCM hosts the official Northern launch show for Meraki Duo’s debut album, Notes from the Living Room, following its worldwide release on Delphian Records (Fri 11 Sep 2026). (London launch: Mon 7 Sep 2026 at Ronnie Scott’s). Hear the internationally sought-after, prize-winning duo of British flautist of Trinidadian heritage Meera Maharaj (Chineke! Orchestra, Meliora Collective) and Oslo-based British guitarist James Girling (Agbeko, The Easy Rollers) perform their record in full. Autumn 2026 marks 13 years since the duo formed as first-year undergraduate students at the RNCM, making this an especially meaningful homecoming for Meraki Duo.

Forging a career over four decades in countless genres, Devin Townsend has reached cult status in the progressive-metal world for his polymathic talent and continual pushing of the envelope.

In 2025, after a career including iconic performances at Royal Albert Hall and multiple world tours, Townsend announced an indefinite hiatus from touring. Having then delivered the live debut in Groningen of The Moth, his most ambitious work to date, it was only natural to need a break.

Townsend returned home to complete the studio album of The Moth (out 29th May on InsideOutMusic) and to rebuild himself in preparation for the next stage.

Eddi Reader has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers. What sets Eddi apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance and ability to not only move the listener but connect her experience to that of her audience.
