Audiences will experience the rich, expressive sounds of both the bassoon and contrabassoon up close while exploring more than five centuries of music, from Renaissance melodies and Baroque dances to Classical elegance, Romantic charm, contemporary works, and even a touch of movie magic.

Along the way, musicians will share insights into the evolution of the bassoon, its changing role in ensembles and orchestras, and the remarkable craftsmanship behind reed making. Featuring works by composers including Josquin des Prez, Boismortier, Franz Xaver Wolf, Julius Weissenborn, Victor Bruns, and John Williams, this program showcases the versatility, warmth, and surprising agility of one of the orchestra’s most distinctive instrument families.
