In this concert, the reading of meditations written by Pope Francis merges with the great European sacred musical tradition and the historical memory of Monreale. On the occasion of the seven-hundredth anniversary of the miraculous Crucifix of the Collegiate Church of Monreale, music becomes prayer, following a sonic journey that unfolds through the late-Romantic mysticism of Franz Liszt's Stations of the Cross , the composed and celestial pain of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater , and the refined intimacy of Luigi Boccherini's, culminating, finally, in the most authentic popular devotion, enshrined in the historic Hymns to the Crucifix of the Monreale tradition.
