PercussionFest shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the classical music world, featuring an array of instruments from the thunderous drums to the delicate sounds of the cymbal, tambourine, and triangle. Highlighting the event is Michael Werner, celebrated percussionist and orchestral studies expert, holding the prestigious Marilyn & Richard Mazess Chair in Percussion. With a distinguished career that includes principal positions with the Seattle Symphony and performances with world-renowned orchestras, Werner brings his unparalleled expertise and passion to the festival.

This world premiere, co-commissioned by Caramoor and composed by the renowned Douglas J. Cuomo, celebrates the joy of communal music-making. Featuring Sandbox Percussion and volunteer percussionists from the local community, the event invites the audience to roam and interact with the musicians, creating a unique, immersive musical experience.

Douglas J. Cuomo's composition is a testament to the power of drumming and music in forging deep, joyful connections among participants. The event will kick off with a pre-concert conversation at 3:00pm with Cuomo and members of Sandbox Percussion, offering insights into the creative process behind this innovative piece.

Sandbox Percussion, a Grammy-nominated ensemble known for their exhilarating performances and dedication to contemporary chamber music, will lead the performance. The group has captivated audiences worldwide with their visually and aurally stunning concerts, and this event promises to be no exception.

In addition to the performance, percussionists and drummers of all skill levels are invited to join Sandbox Percussion for this special day.
