The Malmgren Concert Series of Hendricks Chapel invites you to a profoundly moving concert on Sunday, October 20th at 4 PM, marking the beginning of Remembrance Week (October 20-26). The event features the world premiere of “Each Moment Radiant,” a newly commissioned chamber work by composer Kurt Erickson and poet Brian Turner commemorating the Pan Am Flight 103 Air Disaster. Setnor School of Music faculty and guest musicians will perform Erickson and Turner’s song cycle “Here, Bullet” and Johannes Brahms’s piano trio in C minor.

The Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra (SUSO) and Syracuse University Wind Ensemble perform with pianist Scott Cuellar and guest artist Michael Hernandez.

In reviewing Cuellar’s debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, David LaMarche of the New York Concert Review described Cuellar’s performance as “virtuosic in scope and expression, like a great man of the theater,” and praised his “ability to illuminate both the external structure and the emotional core of the work he plays.” He has been described by Cleveland Classical as possessing “nerves of steel, a formidable technique, and an architect’s understanding of structure.” The San Antonio Express-News praised his “luxuriant exploration” of Liszt’s First Piano Concerto, adding that his “technique was clean, his melodies and cadenzas were expressive, but most noticeable was his keyboard fluidity.”

Highlights include swoon-worthy movie music from Titanic, The Mission, and Somewhere in Time; love songs of the Beatles; love themes of the 007 franchise; plus guest pianist Scott Cuellar performing Gershwin’s stellar Rhapsody in Blue and Mozart’s unforgettable “Elvira Madigan Concerto.”
