Violinist

Each summer, musicians from around the world gather in the Green Mountains of Vermont to participate in a “fundamentally natural and unique” approach to music-making (New York Classical Review). In their second appearance this season, Musicians from Marlboro reintroduces Untitled—a 2023 PCMS commission by composer and MacArthur “Genius” Tyshawn Sorey—as well as a pair of works by Beethoven, including the vivacious Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20.

From prayerful meditation and delicate lyricism to passionate outbursts and playful exuberance, Beethoven’s three consecutive masterpieces offer a rich and fascinating musical journey that captures a time of transition in Beethoven’s life. For this program of sonata duo, piano trio, and string quartet, Joseph Lin returns to Chamber Music Albuquerque for the first time since 2017, joined by his dear friends Helen Huang, Raman Ramakrishnan, Claire Bourg, and Natalie Loughran.

A beloved regular with PCMS, former Juilliard Quartet violinist Joseph Lin has created a brilliant program highlighting three remarkable chamber works that Ludwig van Beethoven produced in succession from 1810-12. These pieces mark the end of Beethoven’s “middle style,” signifying a shift towards a more dramatic and personal compositional approach that coincided with the composer’s hearing loss.

Harp, flute and strings combine to perform peaceful music by the French Impressionists and the dramatic music of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ballet. Also featured is one of the most powerful anti-war pieces of classical music, the String Quartet no. 8 by Dmitri Shostakovich.

We are delighted to welcome this distinguished alumna of our 2021 and 2022 Evnin Rising Stars mentoring program back to the Music Room for her debut solo recital.

The first touring ensemble this season from classical music’s “life-giving spring” (New York Times) presents Viola, Viola by 2022 Marlboro Composer-in-Residence George Benjamin alongside Felix Mendelssohn’s exuberant E-flat Major Quartet and Lyric for Strings by George Walker, the first Black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
