Join us for an enchanting evening of chamber music that celebrates the beauty of nature, "Up Close with Living Lands & Waters," presented by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO). This special event takes place on January 20th at 7:30 pm CST at the Figge Art Museum, located at 225 W 2nd St, Davenport, IA.

The concert opens with the light and airy melodies of Franz Joseph Haydn's String Quartet Op. 64 No 5, known as the Lark Quartet, setting the stage for a night of musical exploration. The program continues with John Luther Adams' "Dream of the Canyon Wren," a piece for string quartet that captures the awe-inspiring beauty of nature's landscapes. Claude Debussy's "L’isle Joyeuse" (Island of Joy) transports the audience to a magical island, followed by the innovative sounds of John Cage's prepared piano piece "And the Earth Shall Bear Again." Angel Lam's "Secrets and Ice Garden" adds to the evening's allure, leading up to the finale with Franz Schubert's beloved "Trout Quintet," a piece that weaves a narrative resonating with the serene and joyful spirit of the natural world.

The concert features talented musicians including Emily Nash & Sabrina Tabby on violin, Bruno Vaz da Silva on viola, Hannah Holman on cello, Kit Polen on bass, and Marian Lee on piano. This event is presented in partnership with Living Lands & Waters and is part of a series sponsored by Susan Quail.

We continue the American celebration with a celebration of our very own – cellist Hannah Holman joins us to perform Korngold’s Cello Concerto to celebrate the retirement of her father Tom Holman, longtime JSO cellist. We will also hear works by Samuel Barber, Paul Hindemith, and Julia Perry. The program will conclude with Copland’s image-evoking masterpiece Appalachian Spring.

Experience the profound beauty and serenity of Gabriel Fauré's Requiem with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks V: The Fauré Requiem. This captivating concert is set to take place on March 3 at 2:00 pm CST in the historic Centennial Hall, located at 3703 7th Ave, Rock Island, Illinois.

Under the baton of Mark Russell Smith, the concert will feature an array of talented artists including soprano Sarah Shafer, pianist Marian Lee, cellist Hannah Holman, and baritone Nathaniel Sullivan. They will be joined by the Augustana Oratorio Society & Choral Artists, directed by Jon Hurty, to bring to life the ethereal and consoling melodies of Fauré's masterpiece, composed in the wake of his parents' deaths. The program promises a journey through light, hope, and the exultation of heaven, balancing profound sorrow with uplifting beauty.

The evening will also celebrate the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, starting with the virtuosic flourishes of the first movement of Bach’s Third Brandenburg Concerto. Attendees will be treated to the iconic Prelude from the First Cello Suite, the yearning Air on a G-String from Bach’s Third Orchestral Suite, and a selection from The Well-Tempered Clavier. The program will also include selections from the St. Matthew Passion and B Minor Mass, offering a rich tapestry of Bach's profound musical expressions.
