Born in Hamburg in 1824 (200 years ago!), Reinecke had a precocious start as a piano prodigy. He associated with the greatest composers of his time, including Schumann, Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Brahms. He enjoyed a brilliant career in Leipzig as a conductor, piano teacher, and composer. Reinecke also attracted promising students like Grieg, Janáček, Albéniz, and Bruch. The musicians of the OPRL (Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège) are paying tribute to this master of German Romanticism, particularly recognizing his significant contributions to wind instruments.
