True to tradiotion, the New Year's Concert is played at Mauhaugsalen, Lillehammer. This year's concert is a traditional Viennese new year's concert with music written by, among others, Johann Strauss the Younger and Franz Lehár. Manfred Honeck is the conductor, and Mari Eriksmoen is the soloist.

Don’t miss our first concert of the season, Viennese Gala, featuring Maestro George Stelluto and guest artist Robert Chen, Chicago Symphony Orchestra‘s Concertmaster. The concert features Rossini’s “William Tell Overture”, Beethoven’s “Violin Concerto”, and Johann Strauss, Jr.’s beloved waltzes, polkas, and overture for a Viennese-style celebration of the season!

The Viennese Gala Concert will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 3 pm at the Peoria Civic Center Theater.

DUEN is looking forward to once again participating in the Classic Days festival - this year with the theme "Humour, play and laughter". As usual, we play two different concert programs at the festival. You can also experience the program for this concert at concerts on 29 and 30 September.

At the concert you can hear, among other things, Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" and Dvorák's well-known "Humoreske". The Dutch/British violinist Daniel Rowland is soloist in both Felix Mendelssohn's early violin concerto in D minor, Alexander Raskatov's beautiful "Five minutes of WA Mozart's life" for violin and string orchestra and the world's most played piece of music, "Tango Jalousi".

Enjoy an Autumn festival complete with Bavarian music and refreshments to embrace the sights, sounds, and tastes of the season.   A cash bar, provided by Harvey’s Garden and food truck with food for purchase will be available before and during this performance.

The concert opens with an overture of music from Lehár’s well-known 1905 operetta The Merry Widow, which was compiled in 1940 for the Vienna Philharmonic in celebration of the composer’s 70th birthday. This is followed by two dance pieces: Eduard Strauss’ train-themed polka Bahn frei!, and his brother Johann Jr.’s majestic Emperor Waltz, written to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the crowning of Emperor Franz Josef.

Calgary’s rising star Kevin Chen, winner of the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition (2021) and the Concours de Genève (2022), returns to the Winspear stage to play Beethoven’s thrilling and popular “Emperor” Piano Concerto. Rossini's light-hearted overture from The Barber of Seville is a playful ray of musical sunshine and the perfect prelude to a comedy.

A supremely well-crafted ballet performed in tutus and set to the sparkling music of Mozart, Divertimento No. 15 illustrates Balanchine’s unsurpassed gift for exploring the variety and richness of classical choreography. Vienna Waltzes, a ballet in five parts set to music from Johann Strauss II, Franz Léhar, and Richard Strauss, is Balanchine’s variously hued tribute to the Austrian capital at its cultural apex in the 19th Century.
