The story of Idomeneo offers all the drama one expects from ancient Greek myth and legend. Cruel fate, gods demanding sacrifice, love in jeopardy, and even a sea serpent: such elements no doubt made it an attractive plot for an ambitious young composer. By the early 1780s Mozart had reached musical maturity, and it shows in the huge range of music in his score, from solemn to sparkling, from lament to jubilation, with a foretaste of the glorious melodies to come in his later operas.

The John Lewis Partnership Music Society invites you to an intimate experience of Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem. They present the composer’s own ‘London version’, featuring the exquisite four-hand piano accompaniment and its Voices in Partnership Choir.

While the traditional orchestral performance is beloved for its grand scale, this unique version – crafted by Brahms for its 1871 London premiere – offers a different, chamber-like intimacy. The vast orchestral palette is replaced with the percussive clarity of a single piano played by two performers, stripping away the dense textures, revealing the intricate beauty and transparency of the vocal lines.

Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem

A distinguished gathering of musicians and singers join together to celebrate the life and legacy of Ronald Corp OBE, the much-loved British composer, conductor and Anglican priest, who died in May 2025. Ronald Corp founded New London Orchestra, New London Children’s Choir and was Musical Director of Highgate Choral Society and The London Chorus.

The concert is presented by Petroc Trelawny and features some of Ronald Corp’s compositions as well as British light music classics of which he was a tireless champion.

Cape Town-born pianist/composer Clouts’ South African roots have inspired a voyage of discovery that has led to him soaking up the joyful passion of Caribbean calypso, the bluesy melodies of Middle Eastern praise songs, the exuberant sway of Cuban dance music and the tuneful essence of Gospel while honouring jazz heroes including Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, and Charles Lloyd.

And Then There Was… Phil celebrates the most impactful artist and performer of our times, showcasing Genesis’ incredible prog-rock repertoire, including some of the band’s early hits such as ‘Follow You, Follow Me’ and classic tracks from A Trick of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering, And Then There Were Three and Duke albums.

Alto saxophonist Reiss Ellis Beckles leads a dynamic contemporary jazz group based in London. Blending modern jazz sensibilities with deep-rooted influences from swing, soul, and global rhythms, the ensemble creates a sound that is both exploratory and grounded.
Beckles’ writing is characterised by rich harmonic landscapes, compelling grooves, and a strong sense of narrative, giving each performance a distinct identity while leaving space for spontaneity and interplay.

Since its inception, the RCM Junior Department has offered advanced training at the highest level to young musicians aged 8–18, nurturing its students with individually tailored programmes of one-to-one instrumental, voice and composition lessons, supported by chamber music, orchestral, choral and musicianship classes.

Many former RCMJD students are now leading and influential figures in the music industry.

Celebrated Dutch fortepianist Ronald Brautigam makes his eagerly awaited debut with Ian Page’s award-winning orchestra The Mozartists, performing two of Mozart’s delightful early piano concertos.

The programme also includes Mozart’s popular Serenata notturna, scored for the unusual combination of strings and timpani, and the joyfully effervescent Divertimento in D major, K.251, allegedly composed as a 25th birthday present for Mozart’s sister.

Since the passing of legendary pianist/composer Stan Tracey CBE in 2013, son, Clark Tracey has led various tribute groups, performing compositions of the great man, ranging from quartet to big band.

This performance highlights a range of his well-loved compositions from the many and varied suites penned by Stan Tracey over 50 years.

Stan’s final group’s nucleus will be participating: Simon Allen on saxes and Andrew Cleyndert on bass, along with Clark, of course, who was the drummer in his father’s groups for 35 years. The outstanding Gareth Williams will be adopting Stan Tracey’s role on piano.

For a long time, the music of Nikolai Kapustin was known only to a few people in the Soviet Union. It’s only in the last couple of decades that his unique fusion of classical and jazz has reached a wider audience.

London Phoenix Orchestra are joined by Kapustin specialist Ophelia Gordon, whose debut album of his music has been highly acclaimed, for a rare performance of his Fifth Piano Concerto.

William Grant Still’s First Symphony, ‘Afro-American’, provides contrast and context for the Kapustin – the first symphony written by an African American to be performed by a major orchestra, it combines classical form with the language of the blues.

Fabienne Ambuehl is known for her vibrant contemporary jazz, weaving together elements of poetry, folk and storytelling. Her latest album Thrive, released on Ubuntu Music, won ‘Jazz Recording of the Year’ at the 2025 Presto Music Awards. The music of the London-based, Swiss-born pianist, singer and composer receives widespread acclaim from the international jazz press.

With fluid, expressive piano playing and emotive vocals, Ambuehl’s unique sound is lyrical, atmospheric and rich in detail, drawing inspiration from both the natural world and urban life. Her debut album, Glitterwoods (Traumton, Berlin), was named ‘Album of the Year’ by UK Vibe, and she has since performed and recorded internationally with many different artists, including a musical residency in Senegal funded by Arts Council England and appearing as an improvising soloist with Jazzchor Freiburg at the Eurovision Choir contest in Riga, Latvia.

This programme celebrates the elegance, charm and sheer joy of the Viennese tradition with a dazzling selection of orchestral and vocal favourites.

At its heart is the music of Johann Strauss II, the ‘Waltz King’, whose works capture the wit, sparkle and irresistible energy of 19th-century Vienna. From the effervescent Die Fledermaus Overture to the playful Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka, literally ‘chit-chat’ or ‘gossip’, culminating in The Blue Danube, one of the most famous waltzes ever written: an unofficial anthem of Vienna and a piece that has enchanted audiences for generations, from grand ballrooms to the silver screen in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
