Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have more in common than their biographies suggest at first glance. The melancholy Russian of the 19th century saw the easy-going Austrian of the 18th century as his most important role model, indeed as the most important musician of all time - and wrote some works in his style. For example, the fourth suite, which is based on several short compositions by Mozart. Sergey Malov, the Russian conductor and soloist of this support association concert, has a very rarely heard special feature in his repertoire alongside other Mozart and Tchaikovsky works: Curtain up for the extra-soft sounding violoncello da spalla, which is played on the shoulder - with a strap around the neck!

Oboist Juri Vallentin shows off his skills in two concertos: Tommaso Albinoni's op. 9, No. 11 and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto from 1943. In Albinoni's work, two elegant outer movements frame the noble, simple lyricism of the middle Adagio; Vaughan Williams' romantic concerto expresses a longing for a more peaceful, better world.

Sergey Malov er en musikalsk troldmand og multikunstner, der mestrer både violin og cello, og som om det ikke var nok, dirigerer han også. Ved koncerten i Tivoli er Sergey Malov solist i både Mozarts violinkoncert nr. 5, i Haydns cellokoncert nr. 1 og dirigerer orkestret i to symfonier. Det er værd at bemærke, at Sergey Malovs cello er helt særlig – en skuldercello, ‘violoncello da spalla’, som er mindre end en traditionel cello og kan spilles på, ligesom man gør med en violin.
