With its thoughtfully curated programs and unique profile as a free and flexible chamber orchestra, the Hamburg Camerata has been shaping and enriching Hamburg's musical life for almost 40 years. Recognizing that music can open new horizons, highlight contemporary issues, deepen understanding, and contribute to our social coexistence, the Hamburg Camerata has consistently made it its goal in recent years to place each season under a theme that appeals to as many people as possible. The programs of the individual concerts are therefore never arbitrarily compiled, nor are they intended—as is often unavoidable in the concert business—to solely follow the wishes and expectations of the artists and the audience, or to conform to the conventions and sales demands of the industry. Rather, each season is meant to become a kind of musical journey of the mind for the audience, each concert a place for social exchange, awareness, and reflection on our time and/or the world of music and its traditions, customs, and opportunities. In 2021/22, the Hamburg Camerata made a fresh start after the "Corona hiatus," gradually reclaiming its ability to play together under the motto "Approaches." They also re-examined seemingly familiar classics from various genres from surprising new perspectives. The 2022/23 season was also marked by current social and political developments: Under the motto "Strong Partners," the Camerata—the chamber orchestra of the Hanseatic city—dedicated each of its subscription concerts to a different partner city of Hamburg, performing works by composers born or residing in those cities and thus emphasizing values such as friendship, cohesion, solidarity, and cultural exchange in response to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine . The 2023/24 season, under the motto "Hey Haydn, what about…?", explored contemporary issues such as climate change, cultural exclusion and xenophobia, diversity and equality, and war and peace, each with a view to its relevance even in Joseph Haydn's time. The Hamburg Camerata then focused on its unique profile as a chamber orchestra, which unites all aspects of solo, chamber music, and orchestral performance in its identity, during the 2024/25 season: Under the motto "Camerata concertante," the many aspects of "concerting" were explored in various solo constellations, also within the context of the The 2025/26 season, "Multitudes," in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Sergey Malov, will once again celebrate the musical openness and diversity of the Hamburg Camerata and explore the alchemy of making music together across a multitude of styles and eras. To pass on its enthusiasm for music to the next generation, the Hamburg Camerata has been organizing the Elbwichtel concerts for fifteen years, as well as concerts for families, schoolchildren, and kindergartens. Furthermore, young musicians are given a platform in the "Boys & Girls" concert series – in the exquisite setting of the Elbphilharmonie. There, they can try their hand at solo performances and conducting with the professional orchestra.
