Join us for an unforgettable evening of classical music at Caramoor on July 8, 2023, in Katonah, NY, featuring the exceptional talents of cellist Alexander Hersh and pianist Christopher Goodpasture. This intimate Music Room recital, starting at 5:00pm, showcases a journey through five distinct sound worlds, with the cello leading the exploration of both familiar and fantastical sonic possibilities.

Alexander Hersh, an Evnin Rising Star alumnus, has rapidly established himself as a leading figure in the classical music scene, having performed with renowned orchestras and received top prizes at competitions worldwide. His passion for chamber music has taken him to prestigious festivals across the globe. Christopher Goodpasture, known for his captivating performances as a recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral soloist, joins Hersh in this performance, bringing his own accolades and a growing reputation.

The program for the evening includes Claude Debussy's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Paul Wianko's Microsuite for Solo Cello, Anton Webern's 2 Pieces for Cello and Piano, Felix Mendelssohn's Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Op. 58, and Giovanni Sollima's Lamentatio for Solo Cello. This selection promises an exploration of the cello's expressive range and the duo's musical synergy.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring an intimate atmosphere for all attendees. Following the performance, guests are invited to meet the artists and enjoy a refreshing beverage, making for a perfect summer evening of music and camaraderie.

This event is part of a new series of Saturday late-afternoon hour-long classical recitals at Caramoor, designed especially for chamber music enthusiasts and featuring alumni of Caramoor’s mentoring programs. Avi Avital was nothing short of electric.” The first mandolist nominated for a classical Grammy Award joins the adventurous Brooklyn Rider for an evening of virtuoso music for mandolin and strings.

On the heels of his triumphant Seattle debut in 2023, Abel Selaocoe comes back to our stage with more of his joyous music. An unforgettable fusion of cello, body percussion, traditional singing and heartfelt music, Selaocoe’s performances bring pure, spine-tingling joy. The experience is not to be missed. Tchaikovsky was full of doubts about what he had poured out in his Fifth Symphony, but he came to love it just as millions of music lovers have since he wrote it. Its high emotions strike a universal chord, and Tchaikovsky’s melody and passion in the hands of conductor Giancarlo Guerrero will bring the program to its striking conclusion.
