Singer

In his spectacular production, which juggles huge video screens and social media, Simon Stone brings this story into the present day. Violetta is a Parisian it-girl, an influencer who remains trapped in the Instagram bubble and whose life is at the mercy of virtual presentation and showmanship. She is lonely in the public eye - and an outsider.

La Traviata

Vienna State Opera

I Puritani was Vincenzo Bellini's last opera – a shining example of the beauty and drama of the bel canto tradition. The work was written for four of the foremost singers of the time, and its power rests largely on the singers' technical brilliance and expressiveness.

Here we see how the thin veil of reason can easily be torn – and madness takes over. In the demanding lead roles we hear a world-leading quartet: Lisette Oropesa and Lawrence Brownlee as Elvira and Arturo, lovers torn apart by the chaos of civil war, Artur Ruciński as the jealous Riccardo, and Christian Van Horn as the warm-hearted Giorgio.

For gorgeous melody, spellbinding coloratura, and virtuoso vocal fireworks, I Puritani has few equals. On New Year’s Eve, the curtain goes up on the first new Met production of Bellini’s final masterpiece in nearly 50 years—a striking staging by Charles Edwards, who makes his company directorial debut after many successes as a set designer. The Met has assembled a world-beating quartet of stars, conducted by Marco Armiliato, for the demanding principal roles. Soprano Lisette Oropesa and tenor Lawrence Brownlee are Elvira and Arturo, brought together by love and torn apart by the political rifts of the English Civil War, with baritone Artur Ruciński as Riccardo, betrothed to Elvira against her will, and bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Elvira’s sympathetic uncle, Giorgio.

We value the support of all of you, whether you have been our fans since our beginnings or you started coming our concerts recently. Anniversary gala: 25 years of Nachtigall Artists

Smetana Hall Municipal House

Umberto Giordano’s exhilarating drama returns to the Met repertory for the first time in 25 years. Packed with memorable melody, showstopping arias, and explosive confrontations, Fedora requires a cast of thrilling voices to take flight, and the Met’s new production promises to deliver. Soprano Sonya Yoncheva, one of today’s most riveting artists, sings the title role of the 19th-century Russian princess who falls in love with her fiancé’s murderer, Count Loris, sung by star tenor Piotr Beczała. Soprano Rosa Feola is the Countess Olga, Fedora’s confidant, and baritone Artur Ruciński is the diplomat De Siriex, with Met maestro Marco Armiliato conducting. Director David McVicar delivers a detailed and dramatic staging based around an ingenious fixed set that, like a Russian nesting doll, unfolds to reveal the opera’s three distinctive settings—a palace in St. Petersburg, a fashionable Parisian salon, and a picturesque villa in the Swiss Alps.

Fedora

Two of today’s leading dramatic tenors—Michael Fabiano and Brian Jagde—take on the tour-de-force title role of what many consider the ultimate Italian opera, Verdi’s monumental Shakespearean tragedy. Beloved sopranos Angel Blue and Ailyn Pérez make their company role debuts as the long-suffering Desdemona, alongside baritones Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Artur Ruciński as the sinister Iago. Daniele Rustioni and Michele Mariotti lead the full forces of the Met Orchestra and Chorus in the exhilarating score.

Otello

The story could be straightforward: a nobleman – the Count di Luna – and a troubadour – Manrico – both covet the same woman, Leonora. But this classic rivalry is complicated by a vendetta spanning two generations, seasoned with witchcraft, burning at the stake and swapped babies. Far-fetched? No matter!

Il Trovatore

Opéra Bastille

Italy is the world’s leading exporter of beauty in all its forms, including architecture, music, and the creative arts. This production of Rigoletto, directed by Gilberto Deflo and designed by Ezio Frigerio, should be featured on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The dazzling music conveys a range of emotions, from joie de vivre to passion, despair, and mourning. The production is also a glowing tribute to stagecraft. The Duke of Mantua’s fabulous palace appears onstage only for a quarter of an hour, but its execution is timelessly beautiful. During the interval, the Polish National Opera’s well-coordinated technical crew carefully dismantles the ducal residence’s breathtaking stained glass, so that the audience can immerse themselves in a different mood in the subsequent act with the memory of the palace’s opulence still fresh in their minds. Once the curtain goes up again, the astonished public watches the stage being flooded with pouring rain… Nowadays, it is extremely rare to witness an opera staging that is both faithful to its era and genuinely compelling. This is classic opera at its best.
