I Puritani was Vincenzo Bellini's last opera – a shining example of the beauty and drama of the bel canto tradition. The work was written for four of the foremost singers of the time, and its power rests largely on the singers' technical brilliance and expressiveness. Here we see how the thin veil of reason can easily be torn – and madness takes over. In the demanding lead roles we hear a world-leading quartet: Lisette Oropesa and Lawrence Brown...
