Antonio Vivaldi is known across all continents today. Among other things, he has his four violin concertos from his Opus 8 of 1725 to thank for this, which are considered to symbolise the art of Baroque music-making. Vivaldi himself summarised them as the ‘Four Seasons’ and under this title they are still among the best-known works from the Baroque period. Very virtuosic and full of small and large affects, they present the great wealth of colour of their era. These violin concertos are made for the top Dutch violinist Janine Jansen and the Camerata Salzburg, because rediscovering the classics of music history is their speciality. We can look forward to the breath of fresh air that the musicians, who are well attuned to each other, will blow through the familiar scores in May. Janine Jansen has no problem playing popular works like Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" again and again, because, as she says, "ultimately, every interpretation is unique." The CAMERATA audience can also expect such unique performances when the orchestra's artistic partner embarks on an adventurous and atmospheric journey through the Italian seasons of the early 18th century, still unclouded by climate change. The music magazine Stereoplay praised Janine Jansen's performance of "The Seasons" as "a completely natural, breathing flow." Janine Jansen also brings two other great Italian Baroque violinists into play, bundled together in one work: Vivaldi's contemporary Geminiani reworked a violin sonata by Corelli on the voluptuous Portuguese dance "folía" into a brilliant concerto grosso. Jansen and the CAMERATA will demonstrate how productive this concert form still is in our time in a string concerto by film music king Nino Rota from 2007 and a charming concerto combination for string quartet, string orchestra and harpsichord by Richard Dubugnon from 2020.

Faythe Vollrath, harpsichordist, is actively heard as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States. Hailed by the Wall Street Journal for her “subtly varied tempo and rhythm that sounds like breathing,” her solo performances include venues such as MusicSources in Berkeley, California, Gotham Early Music in New York City, and Bruton Parish Church in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Other unique experiences include a solo performance pairing Japanese harpsichord works with Japanese art at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, and performing in a columbarium as part of the Garden of Memory in Oakland. Stoneleigh: a natural garden

Today’s recital The Library of a Prussian Princess, tells the story of Anna Amalia, Princess of Prussia (1723-1787), an extraordinary woman who made an enormous contribution to cultural life in 18th Century Berlin. This programme highlights music from her personal library and combines well-known favourites by Handel and J S Bach with music by Anna Amalia, Geminiani, and C P E Bach

The Academy join American Cellist Gary Hoffman on a tour of the USA. Making his musical debut at the Wigmore Hall in London at the age of fifteen, quickly followed by New York, Gary became the youngest faculty appointee in the history of the Indiana University School of Music at the age of twenty-two. After winning the Premier Grand Prix of the Rostropovich International Competition in Paris in 1986, he embarked on an international career, appearing with the world’s most noted orchestras, in major recital and chamber music series and at prestigious festivals.

Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center

Hear the spectacularly versatile orchestral collective The Knights in its final Zankel Hall performance of the 2026–2027 season. The concert begins with Geminiani’s brief Concerto Grosso in D Minor (after Corelli’s Violin Sonata Op. 5, No. 12, “Folia”), followed by a piece by genre-defying musical innovator Caroline Shaw, holder of Carnegie Hall’s 2026–2027 Debs Composer’s Chair and the youngest-ever Pulitzer Prize–winning composer. Shaw’s Carnegie Hall–commissioned The Mountain That Loved a Bird sets to music a heartwarming children’s tale with a universal message of love and friendship. The performance continues with Stravinsky’s Concerto in D—the composer’s first work as an American citizen—followed by J. S. Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2.
