Music transcends today's actual boundaries, echoes the natural, musical boundaries of yesteryear, and above all shows how much music is the connecting factor between different cultural regions. Casco Phil takes you on a journey that began hundreds of years ago and introduces you to folk music from Hungary, stirring Klezmer from Romania, festive French music at the Court of Louis XIV, and much more. You will hear beautiful music from all corners of Europe as we take you on a complete 'tour musicale', from Western Europe to Central Europe and Northern Europe, and then via Eastern Europe to Southern Europe. The program takes a journey through Europe, taking as its starting point the current members of the European Union. At the same time we also take a journey in time. Music from the 16th century is discussed (by the Mechelen Philippus De Monte), but also baroque music, music from classicism and romanticism, a significant portion of folk music arranged for orchestra, and of course also a touch of accessible modern music. In this way, cultural regions are musically highlighted through the different epochs that have molded Europe into what it is today.

Experience the enchanting melodies of Beethoven and Coleridge-Taylor with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra's Chamber Ensemble. This captivating concert, titled "Beethoven's Septet," is set to take place in the New Auditorium at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday, 30th March 2025, at 2:30 pm.

The repertoire for the afternoon includes Beethoven's exuberant and life-affirming Septet, a piece known for its symphonic drama, intimate confessions, and irresistibly catchy melodies. Alongside Beethoven, the music of British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor will be featured, showcasing his delightful Nonet. Coleridge-Taylor's compositions, brimming with personality and hugely popular before WWI, promise to be a revelation for those unfamiliar with his work.

The RSNO Chamber Ensemble, comprising talented soloists from the orchestra, will bring these compositions to life, ensuring an unforgettable experience that heralds the arrival of summer in Glasgow.

Experience the artistry of Grammy-nominated pianist Joyce Yang, renowned for her poetic and sensitive pianism as praised by The Washington Post, and her wondrous sense of color, as noted by the San Francisco Classical Voice. Yang's virtuosity, lyricism, and interpretive sensitivity have captivated audiences worldwide. At the age of 19, she gained international acclaim as the silver medalist in the 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, where she also received awards for Best Performance of Chamber Music and Best Performance of a New Work. Her celebrated debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2006 marked the beginning of a distinguished career, highlighted by performances with top orchestras and at prestigious venues globally.

In this performance, Yang will present a program featuring Beethoven's Sonata in E-Flat Major, Op. 31, No. 3 "The Hunt," selections from Rachmaninoff's Preludes, Op. 32, and Schumann's Kreisleriana, Op. 16. Her ability to bring an enormous palette of colors and tremendous emotional depth to her performances has been lauded by critics and audiences alike. Yang's innovative approach to programming and her collaborations with leading orchestras and chamber musicians showcase her as an extraordinary and kaleidoscopic artist. This event is part of The Robert and Ruth Dell Piano Series, celebrating the profound impact of piano music through exceptional performances.
