In Appalachian Spring, Aaron Copland vividly and colourfully depicts a spring day in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. This ballet score portrays a pioneer community in the early 1900s, following a young man as he marries and settles down to build a home.

'Fugl' is a newly composed opera by Jesper Nordin, and is based on a true story from the composer's own family during World War II.

In the opera we meet the medical student Mina in a war-torn city. She is hit by a series of accidents that put her human morality to the test.
Milo and his wife Amsel find themselves in the same city. Milo is a priest and an idealist who dreams of being able to 'live like birds' in a natural and trusting way. However, this belief is put in danger by his actions.

With innovative works by Salonen himself and Jesper Nordin, electronic landscapes, and Rebecka Törnqvist's personal interpretations of Eva Dahlgren's and Anders Hillborg's music, it becomes an exclusive musical reflection of a unique artistry, and a jewel in Salonen's string of concerts during the season as Artist in Residence!

That's what it says on our website, and it's true, but the small text doesn't reveal how OS has captivated the audience, provided intense experiences, invited them to quiet moments with soloists and conductors from all over the world and lifted the roof of the concert hall. It also doesn't tell us about our work with young talents, concerts for and with children of all ages and collaborations with, for example, Odense Theatre, the Royal Theatre's Ballet School, the region's high schools, the Carl Nielsen Museum and others.

Carl Nielsen's Maskarade from 1906, based on Ludvig Holberg's comedy from 1724, is considered Denmark's national opera. The operatic comedy comically and lovingly leaps into the generation gap and is about different worldviews that collide. The calm, cleanliness and orderliness of the past are challenged by the will of youth to do things differently.
