Join us for an evening of groundbreaking chamber music as the Takt Trio takes the stage at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 6 PM. This unique Pop-Up Concert celebrates the 100th birthday of György Ligeti, featuring his Horn Trio, a piece written in honor of Johannes Brahms' 150th birthday. Alongside Ligeti's monumental work, the Takt Trio will perform two brand new horn trios by contemporary composers Marcos Balter and Hilda Paredes, commissioned especially for this occasion. These compositions promise to add a modern twist to the chamber music tradition, with the New York premieres of Paredes' "Koan" (2023) and Balter's new work for Takt Trio (2024).

The first, at 7:00pm, includes Cassandra Miller’s About Bach—a patient meditation on melody, memory, and the passage of time at the day’s end—and Andrew McIntosh’s Little Jimmy, which combines field recordings, piano, and percussion to reflect Southern California’s terrifyingly sublime expanse.
