Hear Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal under the leadership of Montréal’s own Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the orchestra’s artistic director since 2000 and conductor for life. They perform a New York premiere by award-winning cellist and composer Cris Derksen, who deftly combines traditional classical influences, indigenous music, and modern sonic experimentation. Pianist Tony Siqi Yun, called “a true poet of the keyboard” by Pianist Magazine, joins in Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. The concert also features Sibelius’s heroic Second Symphony, which the composer describes as “a confession of the soul.”

New Jersey Symphony: 2024 Lunar New Year Celebration

The Canadian-born pianist Tony Siqi Yun recently made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He first met Maestro Nézet-Séguin in the final round of the inaugural China International Music Competition in 2019, where he went on to win First Prize and a Gold Medal performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1. Other recent concerto performances have included the Cleveland Orchestra (Tchaikovsky), Toronto and Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal (Clara Schumann) and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris (Beethoven).

Tony Siqi Yun regularly performs solo recitals in both Europe and North America. Recent and future highlights include his debuts at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Luxembourg and in North America the Vancouver Recital Society and Gilmore Rising Stars Series. At the Kissinger KlavierOlymp in 2022 he was awarded two prizes. Tony has a long-standing relationship with the China Philharmonic Orchestra with whom he has toured and also appeared as soloist in the 2019 CCT New Year’s Concert. He has also performed with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He is a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard School where he studies with Professors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio.

Taiwanese-American conductor Mei-Ann Chen makes her BPO debut with an epic musical journey of ages past. Masquerade draws inspiration from 19th-century promenade concerts held in London’s pleasure gardens, and Pétrouchka tells the tragic tale of a magical street performer and his puppets, and his journey from life to afterlife. Finally, young pianist Tony Siqi Yun tackles Tchaikovsky’s majestic First Piano Concerto in his own BPO debut.

Pianist Tony Yun is the First Prize winner and Gold Medalist at the First China International
 Music Competition and a recipient of the Jerome L. Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard
 School. With playing that combines poetry and elegance, Yun has given recitals throughout
 North America, Europe, and Asia, including the Juilliard School, New York's Steinway
 Hall and at the Heidelberger Frühling Music Festival.
