The new "Rendez-vous du samedi" series kicks off in style with the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est, invited to a program rich in varied music. Mendelssohn's overture evokes the majesty of the Scottish islands, between grandeur and romantic torments. Fiery and expressive, the Piano Concerto by Florence Price (1932), the first African-American composer to establish herself on stage, mixes classical forms and melodies of Negro spirituals . Finally, Mussorgsky 's Pictures at an Exhibition  (1874) draws inspiration from the works of the painter Viktor Hartmann and delivers sound frescoes of extraordinary expressiveness.

Film classics brought back to life! Every season, the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra celebrates the 100th anniversary of a legendary silent film. In 2025, they will continue the multimedia series for eyes and ears with the live-to-projection performance of a veritable cinematographic icon of the horror genre: The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Rupert Julian, first shown in New York in 1925 and today recognized by the Library of Congress as "particularly valuable in terms of cultural history". At the time, the film was already the second film adaptation of the French novel Le Fantome de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux. The gruesome Phantom has now wreaked havoc on the screen a dozen times. But only Rupert Julian's adaptation became a cinematic classic - not least thanks to Lon Chaney in the title role, the US actor and make-up artist also known as "The Man with a Thousand Faces". In 1996, Carl Davis, who sadly passed away in 2023, composed a new soundtrack, opulently orchestrated with a large apparatus, including an organ. Adrian Prabava, who had already directed the successful productions of Sunrise and Robin Hood for us, returns to the symphony orchestra's podium .

In this concert, Matthias Schorn, our "Artist in Residence" with the BSOF, will be devoting himself to two works that are among the most charming pieces in the clarinet literature. Anyone who enjoys Mozart's famous Clarinet Concerto - which Schorn will also perform with us towards the end of the season - will love Rossini's Introduction, Theme and Variation for Clarinet and Orchestra. Rossini, who also shows his great talent for stirring melodies here, has given this extremely spirited composition wonderful solo passages that demand the highest level of skill from the soloist.

Dive into the cinematic universe of Steven Spielberg and John Williams with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège (OPRL) as they bring to life the most iconic scores from a partnership that has defined film music for half a century. This special concert, titled "OPRL Bande originale: Steven Spielberg & John Williams," is set to take place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 8:00 PM in the prestigious Salle Philharmonique in Liège.

For approximately two hours, attendees will be treated to a musical journey through Spielberg's blockbuster hits, including "Jaws," "Indiana Jones," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Schindler's List," and "The Adventures of Tintin," among others. These timeless pieces, composed by John Williams and inspired by the likes of Mahler, Sibelius, and jazz, will be enhanced by an original light scenography, meticulously crafted to complement each score.

Under the baton of conductor Adrian Prabava, the OPRL will perform a selection of Williams' most celebrated works, promising an unforgettable evening for both film and music enthusiasts. This event is part of the "Hors série" series and offers a unique opportunity to experience the magic of Spielberg's films and Williams' compositions live.
