Leeds-born composer, arranger and improviser; consummate soloist and generous collaborator; custodian of tradition and restless innovator, multi-award winning sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun takes to the Howard Assembly Room stage once more, this time for classical story telling.

Winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society's 2024 Instrumentalist of the Year Award, Jasdeep Singh Degun was born in Leeds, but his music evokes whole worlds, and his sitar playing…well, let’s just say that it has to be heard to be believed. Tonight at The Tung Auditorium he joins the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and tabla virtuoso Harkiret Bahra to perform his own Sitar Concerto Arya – a lyrical, brilliantly imaginative tale of different musical cultures, united by a willingness to explore, and (above all) by the spirit of song. A night of wonder with an artist born to inspire.

Virtuoso sitarist and composer Jasdeep Singh Degun is joined by an eight-piece band in music from his acclaimed Real World Records debut, bringing the spontaneity and beauty of Indian tradition together with the rich counterpoint of western classical music and modern rhythmic ambience.

In the centenary year of his death, the orchestra begins with Charlestonian Rhapsody by Edmund Thornton Jenkins, an American composer who emigrated to London and found success as both a performer and composer.
