Noon Concert: Chamber Music for Piano and Strings

The Taproot New Music Festival will take place on the campus of the University of California, Davis, during the week of February 5, 2024, and will culminate in performances at the end of that week (February 8–11, 2024). Eight composers have been chosen to participate in the festival: they’ll have new pieces performed, and will participate in seminars and workshops facilitated by the visiting artists and UC Davis composition faculty. The festival will feature Splinter Reeds as a visiting ensemble. UC Davis’s own Empyrean Ensemble will also join the festival line-up.

Please join us on Sunday October 8, 2023 at 2:30pm for our 31st Season Gala! Hosted at the Maybeck-designed First Church of Christ, Scientist, Berkeley the centerpiece will be a performance of Schoenberg's early romantic work Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), both building and music expressing an early-twentieth-century spirit of nostalgia and experimentation.

This uplifting program features Ukrainian composer Alex Saratsky’s new jazzy double concerto inspired by Ukrainian folk songs, and a wonderful second half with the Blackhawk chorus to celebrate the holiday season.
