Copenhagen Phil's concertmaster Jon Gjesme is also an excellent conductor. He demonstrates this in the most distinguished way when he leads his string colleagues in melodious works by Bartók and Dvorák. The orchestra's second concertmaster, Teresa la Cour, is the violin soloist in Schubert's charming Rondo for violin and strings.

The season opener is also the inauguration concert for Copenhagen Phil's new chief conductor, Christoph Gedschold. Gedschold is one of the most interesting names among the upcoming generation of top German conductors - and in addition to being Copenhagen Phil's new chief conductor, he is also chief conductor of the Leipzig Opera and thus in permanent collaboration with one of the world's absolute leading orchestras, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. The 47-year-old German maestro has a great passion for the religious aura of Bruckner's sonorous symphonic universe.
