A fiendish mirror, crafted by the Devil himself, distorts all that is good into ugliness and absurdity. When it shatters, its shards fall upon the human world, where the children Kay and Gerda share a profound friendship. However, when a splinter from the mirror lodges in Kay's eye, it transforms his joy and enthusiasm for life into disdain and calculating cynicism. His cold pride summons the Snow Queen herself, who entices him with her icy kisses and embrace. Suddenly, Kay disappears from Gerda, and no one knows his whereabouts.

In the mid-1970s, the celebrated partnership of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice – also the creators of The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar – set music and lyrics to the story of a woman who both divided opinion and attained near-mythic status in post-war Argentina.
