Pianist

The young, likeable and down-to-earth German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini has already performed on stage with Andrea Bocelli and Martha Argerich, has received numerous awards, and, according to her own statement, can smell, taste, and see sounds in color. With her wide-ranging program, with which she opens this season's "Pianomania" series, not only she herself but also the audience will experience a true explosion of the senses.

an orchestral "breathing in and out" (Šenk). Camille Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 5 was composed in 1896 in Luxor, Egypt. The composer himself described the middle movement as "a kind of journey to the Orient." In addition to Arabic melodies recorded several years earlier, it contains "a Nubian love song that I heard boatmen sing on the Nile." Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov also paints pictures of an imaginary Orient in his "Scheherazade" from 1888. The eponymous princess tells adventurous stories for a thousand and one nights, for her survival is at stake – and Rimsky-Korsakov dresses these stories in beguiling orchestral palette.

Her performance will span a breadth of human emotion and musical expression, featuring the tender lyricism of Chaminade’s Romance No. 1 in B minor, the elegance of Schubert’s Impromptu in A flat major, the drama of Mozart’s Fantasia in D minor and a dazzling display of power and virtuosity in Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 in D flat major.

Whether it's Samson and Delilah or the Pied Piper of Hamelin - seduction can be experienced as seductive and yet still lead in the wrong direction. In the game of power, success, lust and love, seduction is a powerful art. And it is least approachable with the mind alone. But maybe that's the beauty of it.

Hall Schwetzingen Castle

The traditional Brussels Philharmonic was founded in 1935 and is one of the top orchestras in Europe. As a former radio orchestra, it is dedicated to recording important film music, among other things, and is known worldwide for this. These recordings have received prestigious awards such as the Golden Globe Award, Oscar and César. To mark its 90th anniversary, the orchestra is now making its debut in the Elbphilharmonie.
