At the start of the season, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, will perform at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Joining them at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie will be Fazıl Say (piano), Selina Ott, and Gábor Boldoczki (trumpet). The program will feature double concertos for two pianos and two trumpets by Johann Sebastian Bach and Fazıl Say, as well as the symphonic centerpiece, Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 ("From the New World"). In Bach's double concerto, the Frankfurt chief conductor will be featured as Fazıl Say's pianist.

Twice as much fun!

The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1929 as one of the first radio symphony orchestras in Germany, is now one of the leading orchestras of the country and also enjoys an excellent international reputation. Together with its chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, it will be making a guest appearance at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival this summer – with a brilliant concert programme that portrait artist 2025 Fazıl Say is particularly looking forward to.

She is one of the hottest women on the classical music scene right now: Lera Auerbach. The works of the composer, pianist and author, who lives in the USA, have a large fan base around the world. Auerbach's exciting music is characterized by great stylistic freedom and is difficult to pigeonhole. Adam's Lament, which will be premiered at the 10th Philharmonic Concert, was commissioned by the Bremen Philharmonic Society. With Mieczysław Weinberg's Trumpet Concerto, the young, award-winning trumpeter Selina Ott makes her debut with the Bremen Philharmonic. Ott is now one of the undisputed stars of her profession. With the Weinberg Concerto, she plays a highly attractive work by Shostakovich's friend, which he has repeatedly praised as a veritable "symphony for trumpet and orchestra". Next on the programme is the Symphony of Fate, not Beethoven's, but Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's, which is also, significantly, his Fifth. If that isn't an omen...

The Antwerp Symphony Orchestra kicks off the year with an original and captivating New Year's concert. Austria and France join hands in a festive celebration: traditional waltzes and polkas abound, complemented by the heartwarming music of Berlioz and Offenbach, creating a lively atmosphere. We applaud the bright sounds of Selina Ott, who shines in Henri Tomasi’s delightful Trumpet Concerto and engages in a spirited suite by Florent Schmitt with the orchestra. Together with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Lio Kuokman, we usher in the New Year on this musical journey from Vienna to Paris."

What kind of woman is she? The former professional tennis player Marie Jacquot seems to have been taking the stage by storm for several years. Since the 2023/24 season, the Frenchwoman has been principal guest conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and from the 2024/25 season she will also take on the role of chief conductor of the Royal Danish Theatre Copenhagen. And for the 2026/27 season she will become chief conductor of the WDR Symphony Orchestra. Here the hackneyed phrase becomes true: we will be hearing a lot more from her.

Under the baton of the charismatic Mei-Ann Chen, a conductor known for her sheer passion, you'll experience an evening where festive traditions and glorious music come together. Join us in raising a glass to a wonderful new year!

This concert conducted by Leslie Suganandarajah demonstrates that the USA has much to offer despite current turmoil. The Sri Lankan-born conductor has been Music Director of the Salzburg Landestheater since 2019, where he brings together a broad spectrum of American music.
He begins with Anna Clyne, this season's Composer in Focus of the GSO, followed by the even more recent Trumpet Concerto by the already legendary jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, featuring Selina Ott, born in Austria in 1998, as soloist. And after the interval, a rarity: Florence Price, who made a name for herself at the beginning of the 20th century, was one of the first female composers in the USA.
