With their program, Lin Chen and Kerstin Petersen take the audience into the diverse sound worlds of American, European and Asian composers. The focus is on two works that were recently composed for the duo Drums & Pipes: "aufstieg.entspannung" by Alyssa Aska - based on a spectral analysis of the gong - and "Mikoshi" by Rikako Watanabe, inspired by the traditional Japanese music that sounds during the processions of the summer Matsuri festivals. We also encounter various mythical creatures, such as the "Black Sphinx", who loves to pose almost unsolvable riddles, or the sea monster "The Kraken", who rises from the roaring ocean in the virtuoso sounds for organ pedal and tam-tam. Appropriately, the composer William Albright once described his "Fanfare" as "demonic", while in "Nocturne" moths flutter through the twilight. A special highlight of the program is an improvisation that merges the rhythms of East and West in the interplay of percussion instruments with the majestic organ.
