In love, engaged, married, divorced – between neoconservatism and open relationship models, every life and love decision seems possible these days. Not so for Mozart's characters, children of their time, whose fidelity is put to the test in an obscure wager: Alfonso tests the relationships of his friends Ferrando and Guglielmo, because he doesn't believe in the fidelity of their partners, Fiordiligi and Dorabella.

Champagne is to blame for everything: Before the arrogant Eisenstein begins his sentence, he indulges himself at a party hosted by Prince Orlofsky. Meanwhile, his wife Rosalinde entertains her lover Alfred at home, until Alfred is unfortunately taken to prison instead of Eisenstein. In what is perhaps the most famous operetta, decadent Viennese life unfolds in a double-edged dance of champagne-fueled mistaken identities, masked affairs, and bourgeois hypocrisy.

In an impressive compositional process spanning 1935 to 1959, composer Hanns Eisler responded to contemporary German history and placed his musical work at the service of politics. From his Moscow exile, he wrote to his intellectual partner Bertolt Brecht in 1935: “I have a very interesting compositional plan, namely I want to write a large symphony, which will have the subtitle Concentration Camp Symphony .”
