Zornfried Castle is a gathering place for the leading thinkers of the New Right: A lady of the castle philosophizes in a nationalist vein, groups of young men engage in martial training, and a mysterious poet crafts verses dripping with blood, consecration, and kitsch. And time and again, connections to a resurgent new party emerge. This also attracts critical journalists who grandiosely cover the New Right cultural center—losing all objectivity in the process and doing a disservice to democracy.

The trio, led by Japanese vibraphonist Taiko Saito and her experienced Berlin colleagues, first took to the stage in 2021. Their debut album focused on freely improvised music. For their second recording, they will turn their attention to tradition. At Jazz im TiF, they will perform works by jazz vibraphone legends such as David Friedman, Mike Mainieri, and Gary Burton. The WALD Trio will rearrange these pieces and juxtapose them with their own compositions, conceived as a kind of musical response. Immediately following their Jazz im TiF concert, they will head into the studio.

Sixteen Words takes us on the journey of Mona, a young journalist who, triggered by the loss of her grandmother, finds herself in an identity crisis and travels to Iran. It is an odyssey of self-discovery, artfully presented in sixteen chapters, each titled with a single Persian word that captures the essence of the story and defies translation.

But in the music   , as the title of the last song suggests, the lyrical self finds solace – a comforting prospect!

Sabine Wackernagel reads from the famous novel "Mephisto," which Klaus Mann published in Amsterdam in 1936. It tells the story of the actor Hendrik Höfgen, who sided with the Nazi regime and thus betrayed his own ideals. It is a story about conformity and resistance, careerism and morality. Set in Nazi Germany in the 1930s, it is disturbingly timeless and therefore still relevant today.

Rejuvenated by his alliance with Mephistopheles, he is increasingly driven to world-shaking adventures, and, incidentally, he is also drawn to the  "Eternal Feminine  ." Heinrich is torn and seeks the noise of the world. And Gretchen?

The Japanese word 開花 (Kaika), along with the concept of blooming, is the theme of TANZ_KASSEL's season. Kaika is composed of the characters 開 (opening, unfolding) and 花 (flower) and means flowering or blossoming. It describes the moment when a flower opens its bud and blooms in all its glory. This meaning can be understood both literally and metaphorically—as a symbol of growth, unfolding, and the beginning of something new. It becomes a metaphor for life, which blossoms amidst death and decay but can never last. A fleeting moment of elevation that is inevitably swallowed by darkness.

Gastspiel: The life and death of Martin Luther King

A lineup that has long captivated instrumentalist and composer Diego. The unique possibilities offered by the classical ensemble of string quartet/quintet continually inspire the charango virtuoso to seek a fusion of his small, little-known string marvel with the king of classical chamber music ensembles.
His compositions and arrangements, which take center stage in this project, combine classical instrumentation with the originally purely folkloric Andean guitar.

Based on the hit film of the same name starring Jack Black, Andrew Lloyd Webber's rousing rock musical follows struggling singer Dewey Finn, who is kicked out of his band just before a competition. To at least pay the rent, Dewey pretends to be a substitute teacher and, without actually knowing anything about math or any other school subjects, ends up at an elite school. What he does know a lot about, however, is music! As homework, he assigns his students to listen to music by bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath – which, much to the headmistress's chagrin, becomes the soundtrack to everyday school life.

We need to talk about motherhood and women's unpaid care work! What does the body do before, during, and after childbirth? Aside from the biological changes and resulting pension gaps, pregnancy is one of the greatest challenges and miracles the female body performs. Is this kind of work actually worth paying for?

To the world-famous strains of Verdi's triumphal march, Kassel's new opera ship sets sail on its voyage through the ocean of the global market and the shallows of its global crises. What begins as a sensual cruise on our theatrical stage tanker in Kassel's new INTERIM venue will soon become the benchmark for a future of experiential music theater. And no sooner have we set sail than some are already grumbling that the boat is full, while others are demanding new defensive capabilities to preserve the current prosperity on deck.

Despite its crew of over 200 people—including the chorus, extra chorus, and supernumeraries, the state orchestra, the stage orchestra, the famous six distant trumpets, and the international cast of outstanding soloists—this musical ship of dreams is already listing badly on its maiden voyage with Giuseppe Verdi's Aida . For it soon becomes clear that Verdi's ecstatic love story is primarily a parable of European imperialism—especially in the popular choral scenes with their biting musical jabs at the war-mongering Prussian military and its blind obedience. This imperialistic quest for a place in the sun evokes memories of the German Empire, forcibly founded by Prussia in 1871, the year of the premiere, which is now confined to the walls of the Kassel Jägerkaserne, built in 1910. On its former parade ground, the new INTERIM of the formerly Prussian, now Hessian State Theatre Kassel will open in autumn 2025 with Verdi's monumental work.

The Dushevin's Ballet School presents a classic ballet production at the Kassel State Theatre: the ballet "Coppélia." With "Coppélia," based on the libretto by Charles Nuitter and Arthur Saint-Léon, the fantastic music of Léo Delibes, and the story "The Sandman" by E.T.A. Hoffmann, one of the most famous ballets returns to the theatre's stage. Considered one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th century, it is among the best-known and most beloved works in the repertoire and has been performed on all the world's most renowned stages. Choreographed according to the finest Russian traditions of classical ballet performance, it is presented by members of the Kassel-based Dushevin's Ballet School.

While reading classwork, a teacher is confronted with a racist remark that contradicts his humanistic convictions. He underlines it and finds himself facing not only the student's father but his entire class: they demand his suspension and accuse him of harboring anti-state sentiments. The teacher and his students, the youth being playfully prepared for the next war by the ruling regime, become increasingly estranged. But then, during summer camp, one of the students is murdered – and the search for the killer begins…

Champagne is to blame for everything: Before the arrogant Eisenstein begins his sentence, he indulges himself at a party hosted by Prince Orlofsky. Meanwhile, his wife Rosalinde entertains her lover Alfred at home, until Alfred is unfortunately taken to prison instead of Eisenstein. In what is perhaps the most famous operetta, decadent Viennese life unfolds in a double-edged dance of champagne-fueled mistaken identities, masked affairs, and bourgeois hypocrisy.

At the "Mittendrin" workshop on March 6th and 7th, Olivia Müller-Elmau, director of the production SCHAMPARADIES and assistant director at the theater, will offer insights into the profession of directing. Using the production SCHAMPARADIES as a case study, you'll gain an overview of the various phases of directing at the city and state theater: developing a directorial concept, collaborating with set design, costumes, and music, and rehearsing with actors. And because practice is better than theory, the workshop will also put you in the role of a director: How can you develop an idea based on a short scene? Which theatrical techniques help in realizing your idea? And how can you guide actors to bring their vision to life on stage?

"Which of you loves me most?" King Lear asks his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, intending to divide his kingdom fairly among them after their sworn declarations of love. But he miscalculates: his beloved daughter, Cordelia, rejects the love contest and demands honesty instead. Lear—beside himself with rage—banishes her and divides his land between his other two daughters. The condition: he and his retinue must be fed and housed by one of them each month. But Goneril and Regan quickly tire of this demand, want to be rid of him, and seize the first opportunity to depose him. The once great king, reduced to bare human existence, descends further into madness, abandoned by everyone—except his court jester. Then news arrives from France that the exiled Cordelia has raised an army to rescue him and fight against her own sisters. An unprecedented spiral of violence is set in motion. Hansel and Gretel are hungry. This life-threatening situation affects one in five children in Kassel, due to rising food prices and poverty rates. Hunger is literally eating Hansel and Gretel from the inside out. They can only dream of a gingerbread house decorated with their favorite sweets. When they spill the milk, their impoverished parents punish them by sending them into the forest to gather berries. Desperate, the siblings set off, but they can't find their way back home. In the enchanted fairy-tale forest, Hansel and Gretel encounter all sorts of fantastical creatures who help them on their adventure, until suddenly the famous question, "Nibble, nibble, little mouse, who's nibbling at my little house?" echoes from the woods.

The bass keeps pumping! Immediately following the world premiere of RAVE , we're transforming the stage at INTERIM into a giant dance floor. With the FAMILIENFEIER❤️ crew on the decks, standing still is not an option – theater meets club culture, carried by the legendary spirit of Stammheim!

The decks will be set up by some of the original techno enthusiasts: Schmeisser, Norman, DJ Chi, Friday, Julian Theis , and other guests. Tickets are limited to 200 and available exclusively in advance. Those who already have a premiere ticket get free entry and can simply continue the party. Doors open for partygoers at 10:00 PM, and at 1:00 AM we'll move on to the after-party at the Caricatura Bar.

RAVE – Friday night meets family celebration

"Before the Dogs" (UA)  is a scenic collage of migrations from Germany to Brazil since the 16th century. The focus is on the German-Brazilian couple Marlene and Rosa. Around them, glimpses of different eras are shed. These are people who left their homeland for a variety of reasons, who (violently) created a new home for themselves, or who simply never felt completely at home.

A mother and daughter live in a rented apartment building by the canal, outside the city. Rents are rising, and the mother reacts to every other crisis in her life with helplessness and lethargy. Neither the accusations nor the efforts of her daughter Vera help her.

He wrote a wealth of music – music that transports us to faraway lands, tells stories of cheeky bird catchers and angry queens, and makes us feel sad but also truly brave. In this children's concert, we'll embark together on a journey through Mozart's magical world – and get to know him personally!

2. Children's Concert: Mozart and the Enchanting Flute Sounds

In the 1990s, Kassel developed into Germany's third techno capital, alongside Frankfurt and Berlin. At its heart was a legendary club: Aufschwung Ost, later Stammheim. Here, a small group of techno enthusiasts created a nationwide pilgrimage site for the new subculture – with a distinctive design and even its own comic series. Internationally renowned artists like Dr. Motte and DJ Rush graced this iconic venue, celebrating its unique atmosphere across up to three floors and 5,000 square meters of dance floor. These were the carefree 90s: a spirit of optimism and a sense of transcendence during the long nights from Friday to Monday.

In seinem Abschiedskonzert als Kasseler Generalmusikdirektor möchte sich Francesco Angelico noch einmal mit dem Werk eines Komponisten auseinandersetzen, der ihm sehr am Herzen liegt: Robert Schumann. Zahlreiche von dessen Stücken hat das Staatsorchester gemeinsam mit seinem Chef in den letzten Jahren in Kassel zu Gehör gebracht. Allen voran seien alle Solokonzerte im Rahmen des Schumann-Brahms-Zyklus oder die denkwürdigen Aufführungen des Dramatischen Gedichtes Manfred in der Einrichtung von Markus Dietz zu nennen.

In unseren diesjährigen Spielclubs möchten wir uns mit den unendlichen Weiten des Weltraums beschäftigen und gemeinsam mit Spieler:innen aus Kassel und Umgebung nach den Sternen greifen. Dabei sind der Fantasie keine Grenzen gesetzt: für jede:n von uns bedeutet das Universum etwas anderes, jede:r von uns verbindet damit Gedanken, Ängste, Träume und Visionen.

Die Idee des Festivals im Ballhaus, das 2025 zum fünften Mal stattfindet, geht auf GMD Francesco Angelico zurück, der sich jede Spielzeit an diesem intimen Ort einem musikalischen Thema intensiv widmen möchte. Das Format der Konzerte ist offen: Kleinere Besetzungen, Kammermusik oder auch solistische Werke finden hier Raum neben klassischer Orchesterliteratur. Dieses Mal steht mit Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der Romantik im Mittelpunkt des Festivals.

In Let’s Talk About Trance setzen sich die Tänzer:innen von TANZ_KASSEL sich mit Punk, Trance und Ritual auseinander – Eine choreografisch-tänzerische Überwindung von Konventionen in der Engführung von Eros und Thanatos.

Die 2007 gegründete Orchesterakademie des Staatsorchesters Kassel e. V. ermöglicht es begabten Musiker:innen, die kurz vor dem Studienabschluss stehen oder bereits ein Studium absolviert haben, wichtige Praxiserfahrungen zu sammeln – in Sinfoniekonzerten und bei Opernaufführungen im Orchestergraben genauso wie in diesem Kammerkonzert. In Eigenregie erarbeiten sie das Programm – auf Grund der großen Besetzung mit vielen unterschiedlichen Instrumenten eine Herausforderung, die jedes Mal zu einzigartigen, abwechslungsreichen Konzerten führt.

So das Weltbild des Medizinstudenten Artur, der mit dem Zustand der Welt hadert, wobei ihm vor allem seine eigene verkommene Chaosfamilie auf die Nerven geht, weil diese alle moralischen Maßstäbe außer Kraft gesetzt hat. Anarchie und absolute Freiheit gelten als Lebensprinzip: Seine Mutter schläft mit dem undurchsichtigen Hausfreund Edek, während der Vater seine Zeit mit idiotischen Theater-Experimenten vertrödelt und die Großmutter nur noch an Schnaps und Kartenspielen denkt.

Keine Schnörkel, kein Schnickschnack – einfach nur Swing! Das ist die Musik von Count Basie. Seine Band war eine der berühmtesten Formationen seiner Zeit. Zu Ehren von Sammy Nestico, dem Chefarrangeur des Count Basie Orchestra, der dieses Jahr seinen 100. Geburtstag gefeiert hätte, würdigt die hr-Bigband diese beiden Jazz-Größen in einem mitreißenden Programm voller Verve und guter Laune.

2009 entdeckte man durch Zufall einen riesigen Schatz auf einem Dachboden in Chicago. In staubigen Kisten versteckten sich kein Gold und keine Edelsteine – sondern: Musik! Der Dachboden gehörte zu einem alten Haus, in dem vor vielen Jahren die afroamerikanische Komponistin Florence Price gelebt hatte. Wer war die Komponistin? Und wie klingen die vielen Noten, die da in den Kisten schlummerten? Welche Geschichten und Bilder zaubern sie uns in den Kopf, wenn sie zu Tönen erweckt werden?

3. Kinderkonzert FLORENCE PRICE UND DER SCHATZ AUS TÖNEN

Living together in an old minibus? Felix thinks the idea is great. Unter dem Titel Casseler Bläserey firmieren die Holzbläser:innen des Staatsorchesters Kassel. Seit nunmehr zehn Jahren widmen sie sich in der Kammerkonzertreihe der lustvollen Literatur der Serenaden und Harmoniemusiken. Im 18. Jahrhundert engagierten Adelige bei Festivitäten Bläserensembles zur Unterhaltung ihrer Gäste, an königlichen und kaiserlichen Höfen wurden zusätzlich zu den Hofkapellen eigene Harmoniemusik-Ensembles verpflichtet. Entsprechend widmeten sich die Komponisten der Zeit mit Verve der Gattung und fanden auch Nachahmer bis in die heutige Zeit.

9. Kammerkonzert

Der Tod ist ein MUSS, ein an sich normaler Vorgang. Das zu akzeptieren, erscheint nicht immer leicht oder funktional. Es ist schon so eine Sache mit dem Tod. Wenn schon das Leben nicht einfach ist, so ist es der Tod an sich erst recht nicht. Der Tod ist eine feste Größe im Leben, eine sich vollziehende Gewissheit, egal ob wir wollen oder nicht. Warum sich also wehren? Unser aller Tod unterscheidet sich nur in der Fragestellung des WIE – wie wir ihn gehen und erleben – ob wir dem Tod voller Angst entgegen blicken, oder ob wir den Tod, den großen Meister, in Gelassenheit erwarten können. Der Tod ist Realität, zu glauben, ihm entfliehen zu können, ist eine brutale Utopie, also warum sich vor ihm fürchten, und sich nicht stattdessen auf ihn vorbereiten: den Tod im Leben feiern, ihn im Leben einzustudieren – bereit sein ist a...

Celebration

Basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Erfolgsfilm mit Jack Black folgt das mitreißende Rockmusical von Andrew Lloyd Webber dem gescheiterten Sänger Dewey Finn, der kurz vor einem Contest aus seiner Band geschmissen wurde. Um wenigstens die Miete bezahlen zu können, gibt Dewey sich als Aushilfslehrer aus und landet, ohne tatsächlich etwas von Mathe oder anderen Schulfächern zu verstehen, an einer Eliteschule. Wovon er aber eine Menge versteht, ist Musik! Als Hausaufgabe gibt er seinen Schüler:innen auf, Musik von Bands wie AC/DC, Led Zeppelin und Black Sabbath zu hören – die darauf, zum Ärger der Schulleiterin, zum Soundtrack des Schulalltags werden.

Der amerikanische Geiger Louis Krasner war es, der Alban Berg den Auftrag für ein Violinkonzert gab. Dem vielbeschäftigten Berg wollte die Komposition allerdings nicht so recht von der Hand gehen – er mühte sich über längere Zeit damit ab, ohne ein zufriedenstellendes Ergebnis zu bekommen. Erst die schmerzliche Nachricht des frühen Todes von Manon Gropius war es, die den Komponisten dazu brachte, sein Violinkonzert zu beenden. Die junge Frau, Tochter von Alma Mahler und Walter Gropius, war mit 19 Jahren an den Folgen der Kinderlähmung gestorben, was in der Wiener Gesellschaft große Bestürzung auslöste. Dem Andenken eines Engels nannte Berg nun sein Violinkonzert und ließ es mit dem Bach-Choral „Es ist genug!“ ausklingen. Als Solist wird Razvan Hamza, 1. Konzertmeister des Staatsorchesters, zu hören sein.

6. Sinfoniekonzert I Karfreitagskonzert

Im Jahr 2021 ist das Staatsorchester Kassel dem Verein „Orchester des Wandels“ beigetreten, einem Zusammenschluss deutscher Berufsorchester. Die Orchestermitglieder wollen damit eine aktive Rolle bei der Bekämpfung des Klimawandels einnehmen und diesen in Konzerten thematisieren. Wurde beim letzten Kammerkonzert dieser Art im Wald gewandelt, so begeben wir uns dieses Mal in die Welt des Wassers. Dem leider oftmals mit Verdruss oder Hilflosigkeit verbundenen Thema des Klimawandels nähern wir uns auf sinnliche Art an, mit plätschernden, rauschenden und wogenden musikalischen Werken! 

8. Kammerkonzert

Dieser grandiose Weltklasse-Chor, bekannt aus unzähligen Fernsehsendungen und CD Einspielungen, wird traditionell an Neujahr, getragen von der Begeisterung seines Publikums, stimmgewaltig mit einem bravourösen neuen Konzert-Programm erneut im Schauspielhaus Kassel gastieren und wir freuen uns natürlich ganz besonders, dass dieses Konzert stattfinden kann. Es werden ausschließlich ukrainische Sänger dem Chor angehören. Ein musikalisches Fest großer Stimmen und inniger Gesänge erwartet die Zuhörer. Ermöglicht wurde dieses Konzert durch eine enge und überaus vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit mit den Vertretern des Schauspielhauses Kassel.

Don Karlos ist nicht nur ein politisches Ideenstück über Despotismus, Komplott oder eine todbringende Liebesgeschichte, sondern am Ende primär das Dilemma eines Idealisten. Don Karlos’ Drama ist, dass er seine Stiefmutter Elisabeth liebt, die einst seine Verlobte war und nun aber die Frau seines Vaters ist. Das Drama seines Vaters Philipp ist, dass er in seiner politischen Macht gänzlich allein ist. Denn die, die ihn lieben, könnten ihn betrügen und die, die ihn beraten, könnten ihn verraten – eine Befürchtung, die er auch mit anderen Figuren gemein hat. Posas Drama ist es, dass er kein Diener der Macht sein kann, denn er vertritt die Idee von Freiheit und Gleichheit. Die inszenierte Intrige um die Macht beginnt.

fraCelli, das sind die beiden Solo-Cellisten des Staatsorchesters, Nico Treutler und Oliver Léonard, die in diesem Konzert mit Originalkompositionen und Arrangements für zwei Celli zu hören sind. Ergänzt wird das abwechslungsreiche Programm durch größer besetzte Werke mit Gästen an verschiedenen Instrumenten. Erleben Sie das Cello in all seinen Facetten - von lamentierend bis euphorisch, von lyrisch bis virtuos!

7. Kammerkonzert

Ist ihre Wut hörbar? Was gibt es noch neben der lauten Wut im öffentlichen Raum? Oft sehen wir eine mediale Norm dieser Emotion: Eine Menschenmenge weißer, aggressiver Demonstrierender mit Fahnen und lautem Protestgeschrei. Wut ist häufig mit lautem männlichen Kampf im öffentlichen Raum konnotiert. Die Wut von weiblichen und queeren Personen muss sich häufig erstmal rechtfertigen, um anerkannt und ernst genommen zu werden. Mit dem Einwerfen des Hysterie-Vorwurfs sind so manche Anliegen zum Verstummen gebracht worden. Fernab von bekannten Schauplätzen wendet sich dieser Audiowalk den feinen Zwischentönen der Wut zu und fragt auch, wann Wut eine Option sein kann, sich gegen Unterdrückung und Ungerechtigkeit aufzulehnen.

Benjamin Britten vertonte 1939 für seinen Liederzyklus Les Illuminations Gedichte des französischen Dichters Arthur Rimbaud aus dessen gleichnamiger Prosasammlung. Ursprünglich für Sopran und Streicher verfasst, erzielten die Lieder erst später größeren Erfolg, als Brittens Lebensgefährte, der Tenor Peter Pears, sie in sein Repertoire aufgenommen hatte. In Kassel wird der Tenor Siyabonga Maqungo, seit 2020 Ensemblemitglied an der Berliner Staatsoper, den Zyklus interpretieren.

7. Sinfoniekonzert

Gewalttätige Ausschreitungen im Zusammenhang mit regimetreuen Eritrea-Festivals lenken die Aufmerksamkeit auf die eritreische Diaspora. Eritrea, wegen seiner repressiven Regierung oft als „Nordkorea Afrikas“ bezeichnet, zwingt Millionen Menschen zur Flucht. Der militärischen Bedrohung durch den Nachbarn Äthiopien steht die staatliche Wehrpflicht gegenüber, die zeitlich unbegrenzt ist und zu Zwangsarbeit und Folter führt. Sie ist der Hauptgrund für die Massenflucht nach Europa. Doch Fluchtversuche enden oft in Gefangenenlagern, Familien werden gezielt auseinandergerissen. Nach den Ausschreitungen wurden Rufe laut, die Beteiligten trotz der eindeutig bedrohlichen Lage nach Eritrea abzuschieben.

Bei Lauscher auf! gibt es für die Jüngsten einiges zu erleben. Auf Sitzkissen rücken wir im Orchesterprobensaal ganz nah an das Geschehen. Zusammen mit unseren Musiker:innen aus verschiedenen Instrumentengruppen erzählen wir spannende Geschichten zum Mitmachen.

„Co Čech, to muzikant,“ so sagt man im Tschechischen. Wörtlich übersetzt: „Was ein Tscheche, das ein Musikant“. Der Stellenwert der Musik in Tschechien ist hoch und das Land hat eine reiche Musiktradition, vom frühen Mittelalter und die Renaissance über die drei Nationalkomponisten Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček bis heute. Einen Einblick in die tschechischen Klangwelten gibt es in diesem Konzert mit Leoš Janáčeks 2. Streichquartett, das den Untertitel „Intime Briefe“ trägt. Es erzählt von einer großen Liebe, die den letzten Lebensabschnitt des Komponisten prägte. Außerdem erklingt Anton Reichas virtuoses Grand Quintett für Horn und Streichquartett sowie ein Quartett von Bohuslav Martinů in der ungewöhnlichen Besetzung für Horn, Klarinette, Violoncello und kleine Trommel.

10. Kammerkonzert

Katalin und Max Westermann präsentieren ihre Instrumente mit ausdrucksstarken Sonaten: zum Beispiel in George Enescus Stück Légende für Trompete und Klavier, das an der Schwelle zwischen Romantik und Impressionismus steht, oder mit Werken für Violine und Klavier des belgischen Ausnahme-Geigers Eugène Ysaÿe sowie von Maurice Ravel. In Eric Ewazens Trio für Violine, Trompete und Klavier aus dem Jahr 1992 finden schließlich alle drei Instrumente klangvoll zusammen. 

6. Kammerkonzert

Nach „Das Paket“ folgt mit „Der Heimweg“ ein weiteres Buch des Thrillerautors Sebastian Fitzek, das von der Lauscherlounge in einer gekürzten Fassung als Live-Hörspiel für die Bühne adaptiert wird. Das Live-Ensemble fantastischer Schauspieler:innen, ein:e Geräuschemacher:in sowie ein ausgefeiltes Sounddesign und Musik werden diese Inszenierung zu einem unvergesslichen Abend machen. Geschrieben wird diese Live-Hörspiel-Adaption von Josef Ulbig und Julia Ostrowski, wobei letztere auch Regie führen wird.

Die musikalisch vielleicht düsterste Oper Giuseppe Verdis zeigt erbarmungslose Machtspiele im mittelalterlichen Genua, die bitterer kaum sein könnten: Die Macht geht hier eigentlich vom Volke aus, aber das politische Personal ist verfangen in Partikularinteressen und Intrigen. Das Amt des Dogen ist neu zu besetzen und Simon Boccanegra, der als Korsar die Stadt von Piraten befreit hat, lässt sich als Favorit der Volkspartei ins Amt wählen. Doch sein Plan, darüber die Hand seiner Geliebten Maria zu erhalten, scheitert katastrophal. Die Patriziertocher muss im Räderwerk der erodierten Demokratie ihr Leben lassen und die gemeinsame Tochter verschwindet spurlos. Über 20 Jahre später beginnt das schonungslose Spiel von neuem. Unter dem Namen Amelia taucht Simons und Marias Tochter wieder auf und wird wie ihre Mutter zur Schach...

Unter dem Namen Amelia taucht Simons und Marias Tochter wieder auf und wird wie ihre Mutter zur Schachfigur zwischen Plebejern und Patriziern. Am Rande eines Aufstands kommt es dann zur Katastrophe – für alle Beteiligten.

 

Mehr als 20 Jahre gingen nach der Uraufführung 1857 ins Land, bis Giuseppe Verdi mithilfe seines kongenialen Librettisten Arrigo Boito die Oper Simon Boccanegra überarbeitete und neu auf die europäischen Spielpläne hob. Unter der musikalischen Leitung des Generalmusikdirektors wird Simon Boccanegra am Staatstheater Kassel nun zum konzertanten Sängerfest des Opernensembles.

Clowns erobern das Konzert – und entdecken wunderschöne goldene Instrumente, zauberhafte Flöten, laute und leise Töne. Sie zupfen an Saiten und singen schief – aber von Herzen. Dabei begegnen sie nicht nur vielen Musiker:innen des Staatsorchesters Kassel, sondern auch unserem Cantamus-Kinderchor.

2. Kinderkonzert TRÖTEN; FLÖTEN; CLOWNS UND CHAOS!

Filmmusik lässt mitfiebern und mitfühlen, erzeugt Gänsehaut und feuchte Augen. Mancher Soundtrack ist berühmter als der eigentliche Film und klingt noch lange nach dem Kinobesuch im Ohr.

Das Requiem ist Mozarts geheimnisvollstes Werk, von einem ominösen grauen Boten in Auftrag gegeben – der sich allerdings später als Diener des Grafen Franz von Walsegg herausstellt, der ein seltsames Hobby pflegte und bei bekannten Komponisten Werke in Auftrag gab, um jene später als Eigene aufzuführen. Mozart spürt bei der Komposition, dass er seine eigene Totenmesse komponiert und stirbt über der Arbeit am unvollendeten Werk – noch auf dem Totenbett gibt er Anweisungen, wie das Werk zu vollenden sei.
