First Mondays are fresh and full of imaginative pairings of well-loved classics and new works, performed in one of the finest places on the planet to hear music of this caliber: NEC’s own Jordan Hall.

In its annual PCMS concert, the “genuinely exciting” (New York Times) Aizuri Quartet presents a program that explores the idea of community in a multi-faceted way. It features works by four female composers, including Indian American composer Reena Esmail, whose raag-influenced Fantasie layers the voices of the string quartet to create a beautiful, swirling world that invites players and audience into the concert experience.

Kim Kashkashian Studio Recital

Internationally recognized as a unique voice on the viola, Kim Kashkashian is an artist who combines a probing, restless intellect with enormous beauty of tone. For her first PCMS recital since 2015, the Grammy Award winner is joined by her long-standing duo partner, Robert Levin, for a performance of repertoire originally written for other instruments. The program culminates in Kashkashian’s version of Stravinsky’s neoclassical masterpiece Suite Italienne, a show-stopping addition to the repertory of modern viola music.

In its annual appearances with the Society, the Orion Quartet continues to display masterful technique and an ensemble tone that is “warm, variable, and beautiful” (Strings Magazine). For this collaborative performance, the Orion is joined by two PCMS favorites in Kim Kashkashian and Marcy Rosen for Brahms’s B-flat Major Sextet, a work with an astonishing wealth of melody and masterful sense of proportion.

Music for Food is a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in our local communities.  According to Feeding America, 1 in 9 people in the United States struggles with food insecurity. Music for Food’s concerts have raised funds to create close to 2 million meals.
Our mission: We believe both music and food are essential to human life and growth.  Music has the power to call forth the best in us, inspiring awareness and action when artists and audiences work together to transform ineffable musical experiences into tangible and needed food resources.
Now in its 13 season, Music for Food presents a four-concert series in NEC's Brown Hall, "Notes from Across the Sea."
