This exceptional ensemble unites two longtime PCMS favorites—Grammy Award-winning violist Kim Kashkashian and former Mendelssohn Quartet cellist Marcy Rosen—with two fast-rising young artists: the “exquisite” (New York Classical Review) violinist Stephanie Zyzak and 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner Evren Ozel. Fauré’s lyrical G Minor Piano Quartet highlights a program that also includes Haydn’s charming C Major Piano Trio, a work that boasts some of Haydn’s most virtuosic piano writing.

One of today’s most insightful pianists, Mitsuko Uchida begins the final season of her Carnegie Hall Perspectives series with a concert that highlights her supreme sensitivity as a collaborator; dedication to developing extraordinary young talent; and thoughtful, varied programming. The performance comprises music by Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and György Kurtág, whose works Uchida is widely considered to be a master interpreter. It brings Uchida together with exceptional rising professionals from the renowned Marlboro Music Festival, which has introduced audiences to countless modern greats, and of which Uchida is an artistic director.

Central to NCMF, open rehearsals allow the audience to obtain an unvarnished look at the sometimes difficult and controversial process in which a piece is transformed from black marks on a page to a piece of music by individuals working together to make an artistic statement. This rehearsal will allow the musicians to interact closely with Composer-in-Residence Patrick Castillo.

A unique collaboration between outstanding young musicians and an expert on the music of J.S. Bach, the Gamut Bach Ensemble prides itself on stylistically sensitive, earnest, and insightful performances. Returning for its 10th PCMS appearance, the Ensemble, directed by Koji Otsuki, embarks on its annual program of cantatas in the luminous Church of the Holy Trinity.

“Caution – Musicians at Play” reads a large, hand-painted sign on the rural Vermont hilltop where, each summer, musicians from all over the world come together to study and rehearse beloved and less-known chamber works. The third Marlboro touring ensemble of this season offers a richly varied program that begins with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s harmonically beguiling Five Fantasiestücke and concludes with Arnold Schoenberg’s intense, enthralling Verklärte Nacht.

In collaboration with Music for Food, Musicians from Marlboro present a concert of Coleridge-Taylor, Dvořák, Webern, and Schoenberg in support of local hunger initiatives. General admission tickets are $30, available for purchase on Marlboro’s website, and additional donations will be accepted online and at the door. 100% of donated proceeds will go to Women’s Lunch Place.

We close the summer season with young stars from the renowned Marlboro Festival performing early and late Beethoven piano trios featuring the composer’s beloved ‘Archduke’ Trio.

The talented musicians performing in Ensemble Connect form “one of the strongest ensembles in the city” (New York Classical Review). Over the course of this two-year fellowship program, extraordinary young professionals perform a series of concerts that smartly bridges the history and future of classical music, from timeless Baroque music to new works. This program includes a Philadelphia premiere by Michi Wiancko, commissioned by Carnegie Hall; brilliant quintets by Mozart and R. Schumann; and Dark Wood by Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Higdon—a title that refers to the bassoon, used virtuosically throughout the piece.

Each summer, musicians from around the world gather in the Green Mountains of Vermont to participate in a “fundamentally natural and unique” approach to music-making (New York Classical Review). In their second appearance this season, Musicians from Marlboro reintroduces Untitled—a 2023 PCMS commission by composer and MacArthur “Genius” Tyshawn Sorey—as well as a pair of works by Beethoven, including the vivacious Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20.
