Join Rei Hotoda and the Fresno Philharmonic for an evening of powerful and innovative musical brilliance. The centerpiece is Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a bold and lively masterpiece that was still being shaped at its premiere and has since become one of the most celebrated works in classical music. Pianist Jon Kimura Parker joins the orchestra as soloist. The program also features Ravel’s elegant Le Tombeau de Couperin, written in honor of fallen friends, and Sibelius’s majestic and structure-bending Symphony No. 5.

The Grand Piano Spectacular returns again this summer—and it is a real thrill to see and hear! Creative Partner Jon Kimura Parker reprised this long tradition of Sommerfest, the Orchestra’s beloved summer festival that dates back to 1980. This summer, we welcome pianists representing the next generation of great recitalists who will perform alongside Parker.

Experience our season finale concert, an evening brimming with captivating music that spans centuries and styles, featuring masterful works by contemporary and classic composers.

Season Finale: Ravel & Rachmaninoff

Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations

Our season concludes with three iconic compositions and two orchestral world premieres. Bernstein’s toe-tapping Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, Copland’s distinctively American Appalachian Spring Suite, and Gershwin’s jazz-infused Rhapsody in Blue are paired with two works rooted in Western New York. Michael Daugherty’s Niagara Falls is a musical journey through one of the world’s great scenic wonders, while Buffalo-born Paul Moravec’s Serenade—inspired by the Great Western Staircase at the New York State Capitol, a marvel of intricate sculpture and history—offers a stirring narrative of ascent and aspiration.

Audience favorite Jon Kimura Parker returns to Orchestra Hall to play Hillborg’s seamless MAX Concerto, written for Emanuel (Manny) AX. Then we find Sibelius at work on his Second Symphony while on holiday in Italy. Although it was completed in Finland, you’re sure to feel the warmth of the Italian sun.
