CoCo's Christmas Concerts 2025: Bach cantatas for Christmas time with European star soloists

Concerto Copenhagen invites you to a Christmas concert with some of the most festive and magnificent Baroque has to offer. Together with four outstanding soloists from Europe's top ranks, the orchestra performs three of Johann Sebastian Bach's wonderful cantatas written for the Christmas season.

Since 2008 the women of Tibertina Ensemble from Prague have mesmerized European audiences singing medieval repertory, secular and sacred, while playing their own harp accompaniment. They make their North American debut bringing hymns, antiphons, conducti, and sequences by the famous Hildegard of Bingen, 12th-century abbess, mystic, writer, and composer. Hildegard’s music is highly individual, often elaborate and melismatic. The program opens with an antiphon, O rubor sanguinis, and ends with antiphons praising the Virgin Mary.

Music Before 1800 presents Tibertina Ensemble

In the 16th and 17th centuries the vast majority of images of cornetto players were depictions of angel musicians, often in the company of angelic voices, viols, violins, trombones, organs and harps. Taking this image as a point of departure, the concert is pairing of the voice and the cornetto, exploring the wonderful way the voice and cornetto can play off of each other in diverse repertoires from the 17th century to the present day.  Included are works by Sigismondo D’India, Giacomo Carissimi, Alessandro Scarlatti and Giovanni Bononcini.  Featured will also be two newly commissioned works which will be bridged to the earlier works through Erik Satie’s Les Anges. This is a compelling program not to be missed!
