In 2023, composer Gerd Kühr, born in Maria Luggau, Carinthia, in 1952, received the Grand Austrian State Prize. With  Stallerhof , the Klagenfurt City Theater is now staging the opera that marked Kühr's international breakthrough in 1988. Stallerhof is a relentless piece about the silence in peasant societies, about social constraints, but also about the unloved individual's irrepressible longing for love.

Johannes Kammler and Katharina Ruckgaber, among the finest of today’s roster of German singers, are joined by Imogen Cooper, universally admired for her profound musicality, formidable intellect and limpid tone. They travel through Hugo Wolf’s collection of 46 settings of poems by Paul Heyse, an unsurpassed Italian Songbook filled with reflections on love’s volatile nature.
