Napoleon died in 1821 on Saint Helena, twenty years after Louis-Philippe's France ceased to consider him "socially dangerous" and allowed his ashes to be buried at Les Invalides. Among the crowd on that December 15, 1840, was an exceptional chronicler, the great Victor Hugo. Drawing on his words, Davide Sacco constructs a polyphonic narrative on the death of heroes, gods, and fathers.
Lino Guanciale plays a son who has lost his father, perhaps Napoleon, perhaps a God, perhaps just a man. Amid the falling snow and the chill that envelops the breath, the story grapples with loss and the necessary reconstruction.
