Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" has become an iconic piece of music through its use in films. However, it was originally written in 1936 as the second movement of a string quartet. Like Barber, Grammy-winning composer Jessie Montgomery comes from the USA. Her short piece "Starburst" (2012) tells of the explosive birth of new stars in "rapidly changing musical colors," she says.
