Axel Kober was orchestra director in Duisburg for almost eight years , where he developed the Philharmonic Orchestra into one of the most exciting and modern orchestras in Germany and anchored it even more firmly in Duisburg's urban society - with new concert formats and cleverly curated programs with many renowned soloists. But now it's time to say goodbye; the last Philharmonic concert of the season is also the last that Axel Kober will conduct in his role as General Music Director. It will be a farewell with drums and trumpets in the truest sense of the word, because the program includes Schönberg's monumental "Gurre-Lieder". The oratorio for five vocal soloists, speaker, choir and orchestra is one of the largest and most impressive works in music history - and not just in the overwhelming sunrise with its mighty choral performance. In addition to a select ensemble of soloists with illustrious names such as Albert Dohmen, Maximillian Schmitt and Jacquelyn Wagner, the concert also offers the opportunity to meet the State Choir of Latvija again , which was already a guest in Duisburg last season. But for Axel Kober, too, the final bang with the "Gurre-Lieder" will not be a farewell forever, as he will remain closely associated with the orchestra as a guest conductor.
