Venture beyond Kurt Weill’s irresistible ballad Mack the Knife and you’ll find there’s lots to explore. That includes his Second Symphony, commissioned by Winnaretta Singer, an heir to the Singer sewing machine fortune and generous patron of the arts. Bookending that are contrasting voices of three extraordinary French composers.
