This festive concert weaves together a rich tapestry of holiday favorites, such as selections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker with a jazz-infused twist, popular Christmas songs, classic carols, and of course, Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride. Join the orchestra for an audience sing-along and celebrate with music the whole family will enjoy!

Come in from the cold and join the Rochester Symphony String Quartet for a casual concert in the warmth of candlelight at the beautiful Historic Chateau Theatre. Musicians will perform some of their favorite chamber music selections along with commentary. To further warm your spirits, Bitter and Pour will provide mulled wine and seasonal cocktails/mocktail for purchase.

Rossini's spirited Overture to Semiramide begins with exuberant energy underneath, but cautions of darkness to come, setting the mood for Tchaikovsky's epic showdown with fate in his Symphony No. 5. With a musical theme so powerful it has come to be known as the sound of fate itself, Tchaikovsky takes us on a heroic journey - through an ominous beginning, a stirring middle, and a victorious conclusion.

The Sound Of Fate

The show-stopping energy of Glinka, Borodin, and Rimsky-Korsakov set the stage for the sheer delight of melody and drama in this program featuring the distinct sound of Russian Romantic composers. Rochester Symphony audience favorite, Andrew Staupe, returns to the stage to perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, a monumental work of passion and emotion.

The Last Romantics

Our season concludes with music that inspires peace and hope in times of upheaval and uncertainty. The tranquility of the English countryside in The Banks of Green Willow, Silvestrov's serene and meditative prayer for Peace in Ukraine, and the sacred a cappella choruses of The Peaceable Kingdom lead us to Haydn's powerful and climactic choral work. Widely acknowledged as a call for peace, the jubilant finale reflects strength and hope.
