The legendary cabaret Chat Noir was founded by Rodolphe Salis in 1881. Alongside food and drink, it offered a rich artistic programme – songs, acrobatics, and shadow theatre. For struggling artists of Montmartre, it was a rare chance to perform, connect, and survive.
