Almost 300 years after its premiere, Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion remains one of the most moving and dramatically impressive works in music history. From the biblical account of the suffering and death of Christ, Bach created an oratorio that shines in Baroque splendor. The solo parts are interpreted by the brilliant singers Miriam Kutrowatz, Christa Ratzenböck, Bernhard Berchtold and Wilfried Zelinka. The Salzburg Philharmonic Chamber Choir performs the impressive choruses and touching chorales.

Dvořák's 9th Symphony, which is set in the cultural context of the USA, rounds off the listening experience in classical style: it reflects the Czech composer's experiences during his three-year stay in New York City at the end of the 19th century.
