Johannes Brahms’ powerful and profoundly beautiful Ein deutsches Requiem – A German Requiem – for orchestra, choir and soloists is a work of deep humanity and hope. This concert also marks the debut of highly acclaimed Swedish conductor Sofi Jeannin with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

At this concert, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s own Jakob Nilsson steps into the spotlight as soloist in the Trombone Concerto by Danish composer Launy Grøndahl. “It’s a standard work that every trombonist knows. It’s lyrical and powerful – comparable to Elgar’s Cello Concerto or Grieg’s Piano Concerto. It showcases the instrument’s full range,” says Jakob Nilsson.

Anders Hillborg’s Beast Sampler was premiered by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra during the 2014 Composer Festival, which was dedicated to Hillborg. Chief Conductor Ryan Bancroft has conducted several of Hillborg’s works, but this is the first time he takes on Beast Sampler.

Violinist Clara-Jumi Kang is Konserthuset’s Artist-in-Residence this season and returns to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra several times. This is her third production with the orchestra, each time under the baton of Chief Conductor Ryan Bancroft, with whom she has frequently collaborated in recent years.

In the spring of 1926, Konserthuset Stockholm was inaugurated – architect Ivar Tengbom’s blue building remains one of the finest examples of Swedish 1920s neoclassicism. It was one of the country’s very first buildings constructed specifically for orchestral music, and it also became the new home of the Nobel Prize award ceremony.
