Gustav Holst’s The Planets has inspired an abundance of film music, not least John Williams’s soundtrack to the Star Wars films. The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and their principal conductor Daniel Harding will interpret this stunning and evocative orchestral work, which continues to fascinate the public more than 100 years after its composition. Plus Alban Berg’s poignant song cycle Seven Early Songs with soprano Johanna Wallroth, who has been named Classical Artist of the Year by the radio station P2.

SR Berwaldhallen

Enjoy crackling tunes and musical firecrackers in Berwaldhallen’s annual Epiphany concert. This year, young Latvian conductor Aivis Greters conducts the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Swedish Radio Choir. Special guests include the Swedish Radio Classical Artist, Johanna Wallroth, baritone Ola Eliasson, and stage and TV actor Mattias Nordkvist.

Epiphany Concert 2024

First Concertmaster Malin Broman plays violin and viola Daniel Börtz’s Double Concerto for One together with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert. The programme also features lush orchestral music from our neighbours, signed Jean Sibelius and Carl Nielsen.

Martin Fröst is one of the world’s foremost clarinet virtuosos, and has in recent years also established himself as a conductor. He will here be appearing with the soprano Johanna Wallroth – radio station P2’s Classical Artist of the Year – and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in music by Mozart, Carl Maria von Weber and Mendelssohn. Fröst will be the soloist in Weber’s Romantic first clarinet concerto – a work that boasts a wide emotional range and virtuoso challenges for the soloist.
