The Cleveland Orchestra is one of the United States' major orchestras, based in Cleveland, Ohio. Founded in 1918 by Adella Prentiss Hughes, the orchestra quickly gained a reputation for its precision and execution under the leadership of conductors such as Artur Rodziński, George Szell, and later, Franz Welser-Möst. Its home venue, Severance Hall, is recognized for its exceptional acoustics and stunning architectural design. The Cleveland Orchestra has been lauded for its innovative programming and has been a frontrunner in performing both classical repertoires and new works. The orchestra has earned a celebrated spot within the 'Big Five', a term used to describe America's top symphony orchestras.
