Back in Liège, pianist Piotr Anderszewski devoted himself entirely to Brahms's last works for solo piano. After having abandoned the piano for 13 years to compose his 3rd and 4th Symphonies , numerous lieder and chamber music works, Brahms wrote his pianistic testament during the summers of 1892 and 1893.
