Noam Sheriff was one of Israel's most renowned composers. The appeal of his music lay primarily in the imaginative incorporation of Jewish and Middle Eastern sound elements into his music. In 1978, he wrote a work called "Tre'y-Assar" for the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, which incorporates traditional Jewish prayer melodies.
